New Music Friday!

The Jockstrap album is great. Honestly not a huge fan of the band name, but the music is super, super good.

Although half of the duo is also in Black Country, New Road, it doesn’t quite sound like them. But I think as a fan of them, I enjoy this one a lot - so take that as you will.
Yes this Jockstrap album is really good 👍👍

RBF from Friday, Built To Spill is a new-to-me band formed in 1992 and headed by Doug Martsch. I read up the bio on Bandcamp and it's a pretty cool story. When The Wind Forgets Your Name is the eighth LP and it's a solid mix of indie rock and alternative. And the album cover is pretty awesome, too.

One of my favorite bands. Be sure to check out their run from There's Nothing Wrong With Love to Keep It Like A Secret. An all time great three album run imo.

Looks like that stretch includes 4 albums, not 3?
I don't think so?
Great Collab EP in '95 in Built To Spill Caustic Resin and the 2000 Live album is incredible.

Oh, do you mean the singles comp The Normal Years? Not super familiar with that tbh.

Also love the 2002 solo Doug Martsch - Now You Know but it isn't for everyone.

Okay, let's try this again. RRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNAAAAAAAAA

(Also pretty happy about the Blood Orange EP and Jesca Hoop's new album)

finally getting some time with last week's music.

Stand outs so far:

I had GA-20 a week in advance (@Plaid Room / Colemine RULES!!!), it is awesome as expected. In fact, I think they just keep getting better.

Madison Cunningham does not disappoint.

The new Lake Street Dive EP is a lot of fun. I thought Linger was a weird choice for them to cover, but it is freaking awesome, never would have really thought a raved up version would work, but here we are.

In the opposite direction, what in the flying fuck is that Kelly Clarkson cover of 9 to 5?

I just want to come in here and make sure everyone knows that I REALLY LOVE THE NEW MADISON CUNNINGHAM.
This probably really doesn’t mean anything to anyone other than me but it’s like Andrew Bird and Margaret Glaspy are one person. It’s also different but has a clear throughline to the first album.

She’s so damn good y’all.

I think it is Blood Orange - Four Songs and unless he made a hard turn, alternative country is a STRETCH.

Thanks for pointing this out. My mistake. I see how it happened. I added an s and indeed there has been a band called Blood Oranges that did alternative country haha.
You're right, it's Blood Orange indeed and it's (Alternative R&B; progressive R&B; experimental jazz).
