Everything Video Games!

a major gripe of mine which lasted most, if not the entirety of the game. but what makes it worse I found it tricky to locate where the fire was coming from, or at least quick enough to avoid some major damage. I couldn't count the amount of times I was completely flustered not being able to get my bearing as another 2 enemies descended upon me when I just wanted a second to compose myself.

and I don't think any single enemy was particularly difficult, with the exception of the Big Daddies, it just was persistent enough to be a constant annoyance rather than challenge.

I hated how scarce ammo/hype was in contrast to number of enemies. having to resort to the wrench for chunks of the game just felt not-fun, if I could use in conjunction with my magic that was fine, but again it always felt like I was on empty with hype.

fuck the hacking... just fuck that whole mechanic entirely. it wasn't hard, it just wasn't ever fun. thankfully by the end of the game it wasn't an issue as I wasn't in need of auto-hacks.

I hated the progression, it seemed as you get stronger they gated you in different ways. yay, now your magic is selected randomly, so even if you have hype you may be stuck with a worthless magic for a while. fun.

now you're a big daddy so your vision, which I already had a problem locating enemies, is obscured by the helmet. yippee.

it is just terrible combat from jump street and it never gets good. I get that it's an older game but still, I don't get what's so good about it.

oh and the final boss was a joke. I steamrolled over him when I would get killed by the average turret, it just never felt like a fun, good time

Bio shock is one of my favorite games of all time but I don’t necessarily disagree with a lot of your points. I think after the major twist the game just flounders for the rest of the time both in story and gameplay and then it ends in possibly the worst way imaginable. That being said the first half of the game’s balance of scares and difficulty with the enemies type and the amount of resources given always felt perfect to me. I wasn’t drowning in resources yet (like I will be by the end of the game) but I still have to be careful and in the look out for more.

Another thing I really love about the game that I don’t see mentioned ever is how the levels are designed in a way where you can’t get through it all without the compass. I love being told I have to go somewhere and being able to use in world signs and maps to find it, it feels so natural and fulfilling and I wish more games would do it!

This all being said, bioshock 2 is an abysmal sequel and I truly think infinite is worse in every way and is maybe the most overrated game of all time

oh great. I got the trilogy on Switch for $10 recently, can't wait to play the other 2........😩

I savored the story, paused to give each tape a listen and was left with a profoundly touching experience.

Bioschock is the only game to ever make me enjoy finding and listening to every audio tape! And because it was my first experience with that I was tricked into thinking every games with audio tapes would be as satisfying which lead to a lot of disappointments and listening to a lot of boring audio tapes. lol

So the BioShock series is probably my favorite along with Metroid.

The first one was the reason I bought a PS3 back in the day and replayed for the Platinum trophies for the first two.

I think the main thing is to go slow. I never went charging into a room. I slinked around corners. Hugged walls. Used the environments to my advantage. The are some delightfully devilish plasmid and weapon combos to get the drop on baddies. I play almost as a stealth game.

If I was taking on a Big Daddy or Sister. I scouted, set my traps, hacked turrets, etc. I've played each multiple times now and the Big Sister screech still gets my heart rate going. 😅

oh yeah, the fucking tapes.

isn't the lore lovely?

I wouldn't fucking know, everytime I tried to listen a new enemy would attack my and totally distract me from the message.

I think that all of the Bioshock games, especially the first two, have not aged super well in terms of mechanics and overall gameplay. I loved them at the time (except 2, didn't like it particularly) but I don't think if I was to pick them up now for the first time that I'd feel the same.

Will say I am in the camp that doesn't quite get why people wanted to even consider hunting down all the Korok seeds and every temple in BotW. I enjoyed the story and the initial rewarding exploration and wasn't even mad at the climbing mechanic. But, after you have done most of the exploration and temples, there's really no reward to hunt down every last thing. Lots of repetition and no motivation for 100% for me, someone who usually is motivated to plat games on PS. Breaking equipment mechanic was absolute garbage. I loved the game and think it is great, just certainly not flawless.

Love all the Bioshocks, even Infinite although it is a totally different game. Haven't played any in a while so hard to judge how they've aged. I would say @Tillman don't write off Infinite based on the first game as it is quite different. Bioshock purists didn't like it as much but you certainly don't seem like one of those!

I have the collection on the Switch and played through series maybe a month or two ago. I'm decidedly biased but thought they still looked great and play well. I had fun anyway. It's kinda like my yearly Tolkien read, I'll be back again.. 😁

I will agree that the game looked beautiful, the sound was incredible, and aside from one hard crash that taught me to save more often, the whole game ran flawless on Switch

I'll admit that I didn't start playing Fall Guys until it debuted on the Switch but I completed the season back in July and am excited for the new season starting on Thursday.

Does anybody else play?
I downloaded it since it was free, but I never played it

Yes but you played them before. I was meaning to refer to someone who was playing them in 2022 for the first time and how the storytelling and mechanics could seem rather dated.
But I play Infinite like... yearly...

to be fair, I played BioShock before too...I feel like I beat it when I played it on Xbox because the final boss seemed familiar when I did it earlier today.

I don't remember what I thought about the game back then, but I can't imagine I could have liked it any less.. ha ha

You should definitely try it. I was not good at it at first but once I figured out how to do well, I've played it almost every day since.

And the fact that you unlock more outfits, reactions, skins the more you play kept me coming back to try to complete the season. This new season on Thursday adds a bunch of new space-related courses and outfits.

PS: I know BioShock is a beloved game, and I don't like when people shit on stuff that I love, so I do apologize for causing any amount of annoyance or whatever...I just needed to vent after a week+ of playing that game

You are all good man. It's all been in good fun. Not everyone likes everything and that's fine. 👍

I was gonna say we should get a Switch friend code list going. I don't have online right now, but I'd still be down to add some peeps.

I think there may be a thread of friend codes... or maybe it was a bunch of us were sharing back when Animal Crossing hit

i played a little bit, it’s a lot of fun, but weirdly enough, fall guys is the type of game that i’d rather watch someone else play rather play it myself,

but gonna have to get back into it when they re-release the doomslayer skin back
