Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

So what was supposed to be my last VMP package is out for delivery, but since VMP is really an acronym for some foreign language phrase meaning “we fuck up regularly”, I have at least two more coming one day.
I just have to say Lee, you have definitely switched camps with VMP. You (and I back in the day) used to be so supportive of them. They hurt us, didn't they? Lol.

It stinks they do this to some of their biggest supporters.

What the hell is going on with my package? My Swaps are still open! Meanwhile people have already received their packages. I know there is a lag sometimes, but this is a stretch.
I’m in the same boat. And it doesn’t appear to be geographically based as I’ve seen other members on here from Texas that have gotten theirs already

Me three. Are you by any chance waiting on Weyes Blood this month?

VMP fulfillment lottery.

They’ve always stated it is random. Hence my comment above.

Both of you should email support at this point. Your swaps should have closed when labels were produced in the third. Something is not right.

For sure. I’d been irritated them for a while. But Matt’s comment in the closure thread was the last straw for me. He’s clearly charismatic because those who have met him think the world of him, but he is clearly a shitty leader who truly lacks empathy.

Everything I’ve read on these forums points to a further decline in customer service by a decline in their post problem response.

Honestly, they’re a company and I think they have a great product idea and no clue as to how to execute it. I don’t think they’ve hurt me. I mean it was hard letting classics go, but my hobby seems to be stress free these days, no more wondering how they are gonna fuck Up and what it means to me. Also, given that a lot of my purchases were FOMO buys from them, I’ve been able to seriously curb my vinyl spending as I’ve come to terms with I don’t need every record ever! So,in the long run I guess they helped me.

I am waiting on Weyes Blood! Hmmm...that would be good news

I just messaged with Tyler in the Chat feature and Weyes Blood is still 7-10 days out but is on its way to their facility. I have swaps opened still and he said it looked like I would be shipped in the next day or two. Said their method is tied to the records that were selected. So maybe they ship out all the non-swaps first and then go down the line? Not sure. I shouldnt have swapped for William Bell I suppose?

I’d go further..

I’m a music fan first and I have little or no time for collecting that isn’t based around music that you like/want to listen to. I kind of get buying to sample if you can afford it but if it turned out no good I’d sell/PIF it...

Agreed! I also dislike those greedy folks on Hoffman who buy multiple copies of albums they'll never even unseal just because some other audiophile told them it "sounds great", then they find out they don't even like the music. Sadly there are a good portion of people into this hobby that have no joy or love for music. I'm as anal as it comes when it comes to sound but only because I actually like the stuff I want to listen to.

I did not swap and am still waiting.

I’ve also been scaling back on my purchases from places like VMP, and buying a lot less at my local new stock store due to mediocre sound and pressing quality. GZ does a fine job for the hundreds of small bandcamp labels they service, but most of their cuts do nothing to improve the sound of a digital source on a decent setup. And as you point out many CDs can sound quite good, some mastering even walk all over the vinyl copies. I have plenty of access to good used stores here, enough to avoid the risky online used vinyl market. There’s plenty of issues buying used in-person as well, but overall I’m a usually much more satisfied buying well-mastered used records and new high-quality reissues than I am with some GZ crap from VMP.

This is all due to the new state of the reissue world, it’s being driven by over-consolidated major labels who don’t give a crap about sound or really even the music itself. They’re pulling licenses from smaller boutique labels, sometimes mid-production just so they can release more of the same colored vinyl in-house cut garbage. And with this kind of risk in the business I almost wonder if this is a major factor in labels like VMP not investing in quality lacquer cuts?

As for young engineers, there’s obviously some younger folks working like Joe Nino-Hernes at Sterling and Josh Bonati at his place, even Ryan K Smith is relatively young. They all seem plenty busy, but GZ’s automated process seems to be the biggest name in the game these days.

What's weird is seeing this criticism now. Hasn't this always been something that people have been critical of VMP for?

I have been since I joined! Guess others are like Lou Reed says, "beginning to see the light." To be fair to VMP the reason lots of us stick around and get Stockholm Syndrome is that they reissue a lot of stuff other labels don't, and hoped quality would improve.

Are you saying once a complaint is made that we shouldn't re-hash it over and over and over again? What a bizarre concept! 😂.

You've only posted once about Mach-Hommy, right? ;)

My swaps are still open... Is anyone else’s?

Based on posting the same thing and seeing responses a couple pages back, it seem that those of us who still have swaps open are waiting on Weyes Blood repress before they ship our boxes. If you aren't waiting on Weyes Blood, and Swaps are still open, then you should prob contact customer service.

Thanks, I missed a lot of posts this week. Was that confirmed by VMP or is that just speculation?

Mariah Carey’s “Daydream” would’ve been an excellent Pitchfork x Vinyl Me, Please collaborative pick! Only because it hasn’t had an official U.S. pressing and it’s a classic 90’s album. It’s also a refreshing pick as it something unexpected, compared to UGK

UGK’s Ridin’ Dirty was a disappointing pick and that just shows by it being still in store, even though people had the chance two months in a row to swap for it and grab it for a cheaper price.

Slowdive’s Pygmalion needed a vinyl reissue, just like Mariah Carey’s Daydream! That’s why I wish Daydream was the Pitchfork x Vinyl Me, Please pick!

Let’s hope the next pick Pitchfork x Vinyl Me, Please pick is an album that is great and has aged well, and which also needs a vinyl reissue, like Fiona Apple’s “When The Pawn...”

That’s kinda mad logic simply because I can’t imagine that Mariah is something that Pitchfork would be particularly into?

Also more Fiona Apple through VMP is never ever going to happen. Just like Songs For The Deaf and Channel Orange it’s a hook to keep people hanging.

Not familiar with the artist, but the newest rising just showed up...
