also, decided that 'cosmopolitan' is the only thing that works for the acts made up of members from multiple countries (e.g. fleetwood mac)

John Cale doesn't think much of it either, but I love it. And weirdly enough, out of all the albums I've recommended friends, that one has gotten the most positive reaction.

American Beauty has one or two songs that aren’t up to the standards of the rest of the album or all of Workingman’s Dead.

Also, I don’t think there’s a better “the 60s are over” album than Workingman’s Dead - the lyrics are some of Robert Hunter’s most powerful and topical.

I think American Beauty has the better songs overall, but “Operator” and “Candyman” kind of bring it down a notch for me. And i LOVE Pigpen so it hurts saying that, but it’s just such a filler song. And something about “Candyman” has just never hit home with me. Sometimes I dig it, sometimes I don’t. Still an incredible album with some of their best and memorable songs.

It’s Operator and Til The Morning Comes for me that aren’t up to snuff.
