Albums That Need to Be Pressed / Repressed on Vinyl

Tracy Chapman’s S/T needs a reissue/remaster.

I’m kicking myself for the many, many, times I passed up great condition copies in the wild for like $20. The cheapest copy on discogs based in the US at VG+ (media) is $55 + shipping.

And they should press New Beginning while they’re at it. Never been on vinyl and deserves to be
Her debut is long overdue, for real. An essential album.

I'd also love to add Telling Stories to this list. For the same reasons as New Beginning.

Lisa Loeb & Nine Stories - Tails

Back in the early days of COVID, I got a tip that this was a possibility, but all info has gone cold. The source was pretty reliable (one which lead to the release of The Presidents of the United States of America’s S/T Kickstarter reissue).

The original (and only pressing) is 26 years old, with zero copies on discogs, and a last-sold price of $220.

‘Stay’ is the song that will resonate with most, but the album is great all around. It would do well in a reissue campaign (especially given recent ad spots featuring Loeb and the song - I believe it’s a Geico commercial?)

I would assume this is a rights thing with rawkus records
I don't think so. Iirc, he mentioned that it would happen in the What Had Happened Was Podcast, just that he hadn't had time to get everything straight to do it.

I went back and listened again to make sure I had it straight.

When asked about the signing to Rawkus, here is what EL-P said they were demanding when different labels were trying to sign them:
Ok, here's the deal, we're gonna own the masters. It's a 50/50 split, it's a one-off deal, and you're gonna give us one hundred grand up front. We have complete creative control, you don't say a fucking word to us about the music. You put out whatever singles we wanna put out. We have complete control over the art, we have complete control over the advertising, we have complete control over everything that happens in this situation.

To Rawkus' credit, they were presented with the same deal points and they went, "That's interesting, alright, yeah, we can work with that, let's do this."
If he directly confirmed explicitly that they still own the masters I didn't find it again, but it would be strange for him to say that if they didn't.

Here is what he said in the context of getting it streaming again:
It'll come back up, but it's one of those things where we're gonna have to do due diligence to get some samples cleared and do some shit that...you know, at this point, it's like, I haven't had the time. It's a process. It's also one of those things where it's like, I don't control that record just solely. It's something that we've always split three ways...Everything's a conversation, but I know those guys are down, I know we want to make it available again and it will become available again. But, you know, it is what it is.

I wouldn't be surprised if that happens in the next year or so, to be honest.

I think he is a little notorious for saying that reissues are coming and them taking longer than he says, so obviously take that with a grain of salt. Just in case, to time that statement, I believe that interview was done some time in the last couple months of 2020.

This got a boutique 2x10" 10th anniversary reissue back in 2014 that is very hard and expensive to find. I'd very much love to see it get a repress, but know Charlie Parr himself will have very little to do with that, as he's very much more an in-the-moment and about the performance kinda guy who seldom revisits the old albums. Would be nice though!

Seal - Self titled (either one but 1994 especially)
Boris - Heavy Rocks (2002 version)
Lush - all of their albums
Ride - all of their creation albums
My Bloody Valentine - EPs 1988-1999 / Ecstasy & Wine

And I was just thinking of this today:
Beastie boys - hello nasty
