Pre-Order Thread

Hot Thoughts is my favorite Spoon album, and Iā€™m not loving the new single enough to pre-order this. ĀÆ\_(惄)_/ĀÆ

They always have a cool sound, but, on Hot Thoughts, it felt like they were trying to make the songs a little more musically adventurous. This song feels pretty safe, but Iā€™ll be happy to pick up a black press down the road if I like the rest of the album.

See, to me itā€™s the opposite given the musical climate of Indie Rock. The synth and disco beats on Hot Thought felt more in tune with what is currently en vogue amongst the indie scene. Whereas the new single feels like a throwback to guitar rock that has kinda disappeared from its dominant status.
 
I feel like this has probably been asked here before, but speaking of Spoon, can anybody tell me what the difference is with the 2020 vinyl reissues?

The band's website offers some of the OP records at $20 as well as the 2020 reissues for $23. What are you getting for the extra $3?

Yeah, we might have to agree to disagree. Iā€™d rather have a new spoon album that doesnā€™t sound like 5 other spoon albums.

I think we have very different perceptions of the current rock landscape and which bands are dominant. I donā€™t hear a lot of synths or disco beats in the music of the foo fighters or black keys or queens of the stone age or tool or the national or nathaniel rateliff and the night sweats or fleet foxes. But then again, I donā€™t hear a lot of synth and disco beats on Hot Thoughts, either.

I canā€™t really think of examples of what youā€™re talking about outside of the last Decemberists album (they were never really ā€œrockā€ though to me) or the Killers (also seemed like more of a pop band from the beginning). Coldplay or Imagine Dragons, maybe? I donā€™t really think of them as rock either.

Yeah, we certainly do, Most of those bands you youā€™ve noted are pre 2010 (if not pre 2000) I am talking about current/popular indie music like of the past 5 years. A lot of indie music today flirts with (if not openly embraces) pop music and lots of synth and while, no Hot Thoughts is not a Disco or Pop album per se itā€™s Spoons version of what that would be. Itā€™s also not a bad record by any stretch and I applaud their willingness to stretch their legs a bit, still when I reach for a Spoon record I prefer to hear a guitar ripping through the mix.
