Definitive Audiophile pressings

I also don't like Billy Joel and am lukewarm on Springsteen
I get it from a personal level but obviously you get those are super popular musical acts. Like people know who Billy Joel and Springsteen are just from a celebrity standpoint. If Glen Frey’s ghost and Don Henley pulled up a seat at any bar in America and queue up “Desperado” on the juke box and almost no one would bat an eye.

They might, however, run screaming from a g-g-g-ghost!

True, though I wonder if that has to do more with the fact that the Eagles' main run was a lot shorter than, say, Springsteen's very long career. Lead singers or solo artists probably have more face recognition in public for the most part, too, I'd imagine.

Yeah I think the time frame on when the Eagles greatest hits was released does factor into it a bit. That album has been around since the mid 70s and consistently sold well since.

Regarding the lead singers I think you are right there too to some extent but you could also sub in Mick Jagger and Freddie Mercury and the point still works.

True, though I think Jagger and Mercury are much more recognizable than the vast majority of rock frontmen. They certainly were more unique in their public personae than the Eagles. (At least, I probably wouldn't recognize a single member of the Eagles if I ran into them on the street, like you said.)

They still have a pretty large following especially in the main demographic that is shelling out $125 for an album. Based on the reactions I have seen on a lot of MoFi groups/pages, I'm guessing these (especially Hotel California) will sell out pretty quickly. A lot of us are guilty of trying to chase the best sounding pressing of something (myself included), so when it's such a popular band in terms of sales, I don't doubt that people will be trying to chase the best sound of these albums.
Oh no doubt. I’m definitely not getting these but they’ll all sell out very quickly I imagine.

Sorry, that was kinda my point, it’s not the critical acclaim that makes them easy targets as much as their overall popularity. Most of their contemporaries within that late 70s LA country rock scene were popular but nowhere near Eagles level of popularity. It’s kinda like Kenny G. He is the best selling Jazz artist OF ALL TIME!?!! In what world does that make any sense? He isn’t bad necessarily but he is nowhere near the greatest Jazz artists of all time. The Eagles have two of the top 20 best selling albums of all time. The only other artist with 2 releases in the top 20 is Michael Jackson. That is nuts. As good as those records are it boggles the mind they have TWO in the top 20. That is two more than Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, U2, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and The Rolling Stones combined.

But that Weeknd remix of In Your Eyes with Kenny G doing the solo is 🔥🔥 . It really tied the song together, man. That's pretty much all I have to say about this.

Well, somehow my Record City Japan order has already arrived! Put the order in on August 9 at almost midnight hah. Got here quicker than most records I order from the US...this is dangerous......

Tell me about it! The one I ordered on 10th is already in Paris so I should get it on Monday! I think next time I’m going to get some Macca records, this is dangerous…

I just looked at my receipt for the 2 Bowie cds I got from them. Time stamp was 9pm on a Monday and I had them in my mailbox Thursday afternoon of the same week. I remember when I bought some vinyl from them and it was a week from order to delivery.

Basically anything you want that’s old. Japanese Pressings are great and the are so conservative with their gradings! I’m addicted!
Looks like you’ve taken all the good Van the man! I could do with filling out my Beatles collection, and Elton also. Will have to do some googling and checking my Discogs list. Everything instantly looks better with a Japanese obi.

Just remember they will use generic pictures, so even if the picture has an obi, if they don't list the obi it is not included.
