Vinyl Me Please Essentials

Just playing my copy of Room on Fire & it has several skips on track two. I’ve played it several times & it always skips in exactly the same places. Anyone else having this problem? The rest of the album sounds great...so far...I’m just starting side two.

Got to say. I've cranked the shit out of this and it sounds absolutely class. At the risk of sounding coarse it's absolutely fucking brilliant.
Am I the only one who thinks it's bass-heavy? It's hardly unlistenable, but I keep finding myself noticing the bass as if someone punched in the Loudness button or something.

My copy is balanced as a muthafucker. The bass is there but it's not overpowering the rest.

Knowing VMP as I do there is always a chance you've been sent a duffer?

In fact... This is going to be open to dispute... But I think this is the best sounding Essentials they've done. It's absolutely brilliant.

It doesn't sound distorted or anything. I'll give it a few more spins before deciding if it's a real issue. "Too much bass" is not a normal complaint for me...

I'd compare it to my older copy for you but when I pulled it out the shelf before it turns out its still sealed... Which is bizarre as I can definitely remember listening to it in the last year... Which means somewhere in here there's another Room on Fire... Or my dog has somehow worked out how to reseal shrink wrap and is seriously fucking with me

Either this or the John Mayer. Both sound super!

Yeah. I'm not going to go all NR on it but that was some seriously enjoyable shit. So much so that I almost chucked it straight back on as soon as it was finished.

Anyone on the fence and with no interest in the absolute sack of spanners that VMP has put up for next months three choices could do far worse than grab this. Absolute belter.

I am spinning ROF again and there are still moments where I feel like the bass is artificial. I don't have any tone controls in my system, so it's pretty much WYSIWYG. I suspect that the real problem is 15+ years of hearing this album with very little low end representation. Don't worry, everyone: I will keep listening and updating you all. This is very important.

I have Newbury version of room on fire. I really like that pressing. It sounds great. I also have the MOV presses of is this it and first impressions which are pretty good.

Is the VMP pressing that good? This is one of my all time favourite albums so I'm pretty tempted to pick this up. @Joe Mac I know you're a big strokes fan as well did you pick this one up?

Somehow an audiophile mastering of this bands music might also piss me off in some ways. Kind of part of the charm when it sounds like it was recorded in some grungey basement with mics placed by roadies.

Sorry no I’ve no intention of buying this or supporting VMP right now. I had orange flame one that came out in early 2020, I bought it either from jpc or hhv, and it sounds great. I see no need to trade it out.

Yeah the other two albums were from that same run. Should be MOV, and I think they sound great too.

Hoping someone eventually compares this one to the other versions. I'd hate to miss out if it's indeed the definitive version.

If it was “Is This It” I’d kinda be on the same page, although I have the actual MOV release of that one and it sounds mega, but for Room on Fire I’m just not at all curious lol. Plus I’m not rejoining an expensive circus thst always flatters to deceive and disappointsz

I've the Rough Trade of Is This It and it's absolute dog shit.

Joe - I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this but I've no interest in next month's three picks so if you want, and it's in swaps, I'll grab you one. I'm on the 12 month bridge so it should be cheapish enough. If not its store credit for me

MOV actually kicks ass on is this it. I had the original EU press and the MOV sounded way better. The newest white version of that album is the same runout from MOV so I'm pretty thoroughly satisfied with that album now in terms of a great sounding copy with a fun asthetic.

Pretty much same for room on fire, pretty sure Newbury wouldn't have done anything special with their mix but it sounds great to me as well.

I don't necessarily want to give vmp money but they have credit of mine still which I need to use. I also see the exchange rate is in favour right now.

Does anyone know if you can use your credits when you sign up for membership?

Cheers I really appreciate the offer and for a different album I’d have 100% taken you up on that. As it is, MOV did a really good job with their first 3 albums so apart from VMP I’m actually really quite happy with it. I can well imagine that Rough Trade dropped the ball, their own label isn’t known for the high quality of its pressings...
