Currently, I go with the listen on digital first, if I can. But with new releases and FOMO my curation goes through this analysis in an effort to keep my bank account out of the red, but with the 30th year Anniversary of 1991 releases on the horizon...things could get bloody in the next year nonetheless:
  1. Is this a previously released album that is personally essential/important?
    1. IF YES, go to #3;
    2. IF NO, do not buy
  2. Is this a new release that might be personally essential/important in the future?
    1. IF YES, go to #3;
    2. IF NO, do not buy
  3. Is the vinyl edition I am contemplating a 1st Press/Ltd. Variant or Must have Press (e.g. a mobile fidelity press; unique box set):
    1. IF YES, go to #4,
    2. IF NO, do not buy
  4. Is this vinyl crazy expensive right now or might I get it for a better price later:
    1. IF NO, BUY IT
    2. IF YES, go to #5
  5. Is this a Wilco/Wilco-adjacent release?:
    1. IF YES, fuck it...fuck the cost...BUY IT;
    2. IF NO (go back to 1 and 2 and reassess just to be sure and otherwise maybe get digital if you dont already have it, and wait till you can get the desired pressing at a reasonable price)

It does have three Sunday Valley songs on it which I am pretty pumped about. Now why can't he just press Sunday Valley To The Wind and Onto Heaven as well. I mean there is a market for it.

This is the correct system and if everyone were to employ these steps then we'd probably have far less $50 and up single LP releases.

I'd also add here to never settle on paying flipper prices. Most everything I've thought about buying at those rates on Discogs end up coming back down or getting a reissue of sorts to bring it back down. Release yourself from the gotta have it now mentality and go listen to what you do have.

I’ve never had this happen. (I also seldom get rid of records. I do occasionally PIF them and never get around to sending them, stop judging me) hi @tvham and other dude... I seriously haven’t forgotten!

I ended up with two somehow, only ordered one, eventually someone in Europe bought one on discogs. And maybe a year ago I traded in the other to my local. Its the only vault I dont own.
