On the topic of this album (and Lou Donaldson) in particular, does anyone know what the album art work is about? Is it the same woman as Alligator Boogaloo? I've noticed on almost all of Lou's album covers he has female models posing, a lot of them white women. Just curious about if this had any significance or simply random coincidence. @Selaws @Doctor_of_Jazz have you guys come across this in your readings?

There's some level of significance to them in the sense that the model, Peggy Moffit, was William Claxton's (the famous photographer) wife. I haven't read anything that suggests Claxton took the photos, but I do remember there being a short animation of the cover being 'built' (as in the video starts with the single image, then the second slides up and rotates etc) when they announced it as a tone poet.

Bloody hell that's the 6th they will be putting out this year!! So far we have:

August: Bob James – Once Upon A Time: The Lost 1965 New York Studio Sessions
September: Bill Evans - Some Other Time: The Lost Session From The Black Forest (reissue)
November: Sonny Rollins - Rollins In Holland
November: Bill Evans - Live at Ronnie Scott’s
November: George Coleman Quintet - In Baltimore (This is on Reel To Real, but is still a Zev Feldman project - same quality and package as Resonance by all regards)

So happy for these, I cant get enough of their releases!

Its funny it really only looks at melodic invention. Things like the vibrato and string bending, dynamic, and density really don’t show in the graphic. These are the things really shine in players like BB King.
 
Anybody have any insight/thoughts on Get On Down reissues? Saw they are doing an expanded Mingus Ah Um for RSD but I seem to recall their pressings sounding very meh.

edit: think I answered my own question....seems that their last RSD release of Miles in Tokyo was CD sourced.

They're definitely not audiophile by any means, but I don't have a problem with the ones I own (Herbie Hancock Direcstep and Miles in Tokyo). Seems to be hit or miss generally. I'm on the fence, too, regarding the Mingus but the extra disc seems pretty neat and that's one of my favorite jazz albums of all time.

I've steered clear of them after getting a Herbie Hancock RSD release (dedication) that is unlistenable.

I’m assuming this one will be as well, I think the version of the Mingus Ah Um with the extra takes is already on CD.
 
Anyone have the AP Bill Evans Live At The Montreux Jazz Festival? Trying to decide between the 33 RPM or 45, wanted to see if anyone had an opinion on whether the 45 is worth the extra money.

I’ve got the AP 33 RPM and have no complaints. It’s not a top-tier Evans for me so this version is perfect for me as a semi-regular spin.

I lied. I have the Speakers Corner pressing which I seem to remember sounding really nice.

Looks like it (even if its a case of it not being a formal one, labels are still releasing records on that date). Zev Feldman also worked on the George Coleman Quintet - In Baltimore release for Reel To Real, which is a RSD Black Friday release as well
