Pre-Order Thread

I know you originally said you weren't into Fantasma but I'm glad you decided to get it. It's still my favorite Cornelius album.
Yeah, I briefly re-listened to it after VMP announced their exclusive of it, and I was actually really impressed with how much originality was in the music. I see why Fantasma is regarded as Cornelius’ best work now! I cannot wait to receive the exclusive and play it! 😁

Make sure you listen to it with headphones... He's known for really making use of both stereo channels

A little late on this, but I'll agree with what was said about High re: Peace at Last and first two albums. Better than the former and inferior to the latter.

I saw on your status you recently acquired a copy of "Hats" so good on you. I got two copies of each of the first three reissues direct from TBN as well. The resale values got ridiculous. This release may be a bit more optimistic since it doesn't say anything about limited quantities, while the first wave said they were all limited (1,500 if I remember correctly and then TBN via FB talked about upping the number b/c of unforeseen demand).

With that said, I'm wary of this RE. One, the first three REs weren't that great. Pressing-wise they were okay. Having 2 of each to listen to, I found them to be hit or miss w/ surface noise (I have a RCM so they got proper treatment, but still...). Hats and A Walk Across the Rooftops are much better - Peace at Last I found noisy.

Also the presentation is crap. TBH, the OG Linn copies aren't anything more than a jacket really. But TBN seemed acutely aware of their fanbases' desire for these REs so they couldn't they get a little better treatment? - at least a lined inner. The 2014 2xLP of Peace at Last had the same extra tracks that the CD deluxe edition has - seems like they could've gone this route.

Speaking of the CDs - if you buy CDs (I do) - if you don't have the deluxe editions of the first three albums then I would suggest to get them. They are readily available in the U.S. (e.g. Amazon) at reasonable prices. The extras are worthwhile and the multi-paneled digipaks are well done and make the deluxe editions feel "substantial".

I have the CD of High and I am actually more psyched for the CD deluxe edition of this than the vinyl. Keep in mind that High never saw a vinyl release, so the recording may not have had that in mind. If the vinyl makes its way to U.S. sellers I'll probably cop it but I'm not paying the close to $50 with shipping straight from TBN. The CD though - that's a buy for me.
I gave Hats a spin yesterday and it did sound absolutely incredible. By comparison I was listening to a different album right before and I had to turn the volume on my system down a lot because Hats was well and truly mastered well. Lots of space and dead quiet.

Yea, for me, Hats (both copies) were pretty flawless. AWATR is actually pretty good too. Just The Easter Parade had some noise on both copies. TBF, it is a quiet song and my OG Linn copy is noisy on that track too.

Peace at Last is the one that left a bad taste pressing-wise. But like I said, they all failed in presentation.

It does look like Amazon UK is doing pre orders for High so if you wanna save on shipping that might be a route.
Yeah I may do that because what If I want it eventually and it’s pricy from second hand sellers. Hats was new, sealed from a seller for about $55 including shipping so the others probably go for at least that.

Murder by Death is having a Kickstarter

WHY ARE WE DOING A KICKSTARTER DURING A PANDEMIC?

We are extremely fortunate to have such a dedicated fanbase, and during tough times it also feels like an incredible resource. We were discussing how to address our work situation for the next year, (there was a lot of touring planned that hadn't been announced yet) and so we came up with this idea to do a kickstarter that incorporates some of those plans, with the hope it will fill in some of the big gaps left in the wake of this tragic pandemic, and that later in the year we can continue performing for you.

In a nutshell, so far we have cancelled or postponed 3 tours due to the restrictions imposed on gatherings. That means that over a year of our band and crew's income went down the drain, with who knows what to come. It was also particularly bad timing because we were carrying debt from the tour that had not yet been made back so several of us have not been paid for the dates we'd already performed for our 20th Anniversary tour. To further complicate things, being self-employed, most of us have been denied or excluded from unemployment and are not eligible for disaster loans. We have spent the last five weeks applying for grants, loans, unemployment etc with mixed but mostly negative results. Not trying to complain, there's people in a lot worse situations than us, and if you are experiencing hardship from the pandemic, we encourage you to NOT participate in this Kickstarter, please consider your own needs first. We love you and need you to be well. If you do participate, not only will it help us get to zero, grant us a safety net for the future, but it also helps us pay the folks we work with; crew, artists, manufacturers, printers, managers, venues and the extremely vital US Post Office (whom we have shipped over 60,000 packages through, to date).

It's certainly not how we planned to spend this year, but we need to come up with some way to pay our bills, pay the people we work with, cover running expenses and any unforeseen expenses, and provide an emergency fund for band and crew as this extends further into the year. The best idea we could come up with is to pre-sell some bundles for future concerts, a very flashy limited-only-to-this-kickstarter-version of whatever our next album is, and for your retail therapy in the meantime, some really cool shirts and posters. The majority of the Stanley tickets will go on sale as usual in August, and next year we will do a more regular kickstarter for the new album, with lots of fun options. In the meantime, if you are willing to help us out now, we'll make sure you're taken care of merch-wise and we'll rock your faces off as soon as things get back to "normal".

Concert dates are confirmed, but due to potential gathering restrictions, we will postpone them if necessary. If the uncertainty of the concert dates stresses you out, or puts you out, don't sweat it! By buying tickets now, you're securing a spot for whenever the next event happens, and you're helping us get through this period. If you're in a position to help, THANK YOU! And if you're not in a position to help THANK YOU and STAY SAFE TO ALL! Love, MBD

WHAT'S FOR SALE / TELL ME MORE

Here's what we are selling.

SSE Vinyl: Super Special Edition Vinyl: This is an early buy-in to support our next album on vinyl. We won't record 'til Winter or Spring 2021, but this helps us get production costs covered to write, rehearse and record a new album. This will be a very very flashy version of the album, and will be limited to this kickstarter. There will be other versions available once the record comes out. All vinyl will ship around August 2021

Shirt/Poster Combo: Skeleton shirt is by @oldcreeps - so dope! Poster is designed by @Matt.c.Harvey and printed by @lastleafdesigns - so cool! Sizes available are: Men's S,M,L,XL,XXL,XXXL & Women's S,M,L,XL These will ship June 2020
The vinyl would have been $91 CAD. Love them and I have almost everything else, but that's a bit rich for my blood. Wish they could pre-sell regular club shows; I would have bought ten tickets right away.

I don't even want to see my list. Both Sven Wunders, Fiona, and the Yoshimura are all on it, though. So is Maston - Tulips in an order where I added a $16 Bernie Worrell album from the LITA sale section.
Yeah, the only one I am slightly concerned about on my list was the Radio Dept. I received a shipping notice from the at the end of March and it has not yet arrived. I know it shipped from Europe so I am sure customs is slowed by covid but I have placed an order from Japan and a couple from Canada in the mean time and both arrived really fast. I figure I will reach out in the next week if I haven’t heard anything,

I just don't want to see how much shit I've ordered, but it's probably a smart move to log it and see

Yeah, you gotta keep track, my retail therapy has been pretty intense during the shutdown. I figure I am not going out to shows, bars or for dinner and since I am working from home I don’t even use money for gas or lunch any more. So instead of doing the responsible thing and saving that money I just buy a lot of records and books and shit I don’t need online. If my mail man didn’t hate me before he is probably getting there now.
