What's Spinning

Larry Young - Larry Young In Paris: The ORTF Recordings (Resonance Records, 2016 limited, hand-numbered pressing 1938/2000)

This has pretty much cemented my aim to pick up any future release from Resonance Records. The quality is just phenominal. I picked this up sealed for around £25 inc postage from discogs (which is the average) and it includes 2 fantastic records of unreleased music, a comprehensive 12x12 book with never before seen photos, 6 high-quality postcard prints, and a download code. The value is just incredible. The book is itself worth the money, with detailed information on how the recordings were obtained, the history behind them, and interviews with Youngs son, John McLaughlin, Dr. Lonnie Smith, John Medeski, Bill Laswell, Nathan Davis, Andre Francis, producer Zev Feldman, & Woody Shaw III. Its just a phenomenal package and one that I wouldn't of been surprised to have a much much higher price tag.

DC Talk - Jesus Freak (1995, reissue 2015)

The definitive CCM classic. When Christian music embraced hip-hop and grunge. Got to see a mini reunion of these guys at Uprise Fest a few years back when TobyMac came out and performed the title track with Newsboys. Great record!

The agutierrezb 2019 record collection challenge

So I've decided to embark on my own personal challenge, which consists of listening every record in my collection before the end of the year. My record collection is not that big -only ~250-, but I still feel like there are a bunch of records I don't give enough attention to, while still adding more titles to my shelves.

For this reason I've set a couple of rules in order to play every record at least once before December 31st: I'll play at least one record a day, going from front to back in the way I have them sorted in my shelf. I can play a different record (i.e. Not the next one in alphabetical order) if I feel like listening to something else in any given moment, but at least one of the records I spin in the day has to be the LP in turn.

I didn't take pictures for the first two days, but I'll try to document the process from here on, so I'll be posting daily on this thread. Wish me luck!

#191: Wes Montgomery - Impressions

#192: Enrique Morente - Negra, si tu supieras

Flamenco fusion album by one of my favorite artists in the genre. It's not his best record IMO, but his passionate delivery and unique voice is enough to make this a great listen. I'm looking forward to adding more of his albums to my shelves, but they're not very easy to get outside of Spain, and the resale price on some of these on Discogs is crazy.
