My collection #154

Olli Ahvenlahti - Based On A Novel

Last of my mini foray into Finnish jazz. Possibly the weakest but like all of them a really nice package from Svart Records. Worth looking out for if anybody is interested in the less beaten paths of European jazz.

My collection #155

Led Zeppelin - Houses of the Holy

Some of my favourite Zeppelin songs on this including The Ocean, Over The Hills And Far Away, and The Rain Song. Enjoying myself while my suddenly home schooled kids are outside. The more and more I listen to them - and they're my all-time favourite band - the more I admire John Bonham's drumming. Just extraordinary.

brian blade fellowship - s/t

this is a blind buy/blind listen, picked up solely because the back sleeve credits noted it’s a 1998 album produced by daniel lanois, who around that time had produced classic, atmospheric records for bob dylan, willie nelson, and emmylou harris. so if you liked the sound and vibe of those records, you might be interested in this one, too.

madison mcferrin - you + i

bobby’s daughter. kinda makes you feel old listening to music from the grown kids of artists heard when you were growing up. but there’s some good stuff here, and hopefully she gets even better.

pretty strong video for the song ‘try’:

The agutierrezb 2019 record collection challenge

So I've decided to embark on my own personal challenge, which consists of listening every record in my collection before the end of the year. My record collection is not that big -only ~250-, but I still feel like there are a bunch of records I don't give enough attention to, while still adding more titles to my shelves.

For this reason I've set a couple of rules in order to play every record at least once before December 31st: I'll play at least one record a day, going from front to back in the way I have them sorted in my shelf. I can play a different record (i.e. Not the next one in alphabetical order) if I feel like listening to something else in any given moment, but at least one of the records I spin in the day has to be the LP in turn.

I didn't take pictures for the first two days, but I'll try to document the process from here on, so I'll be posting daily on this thread. Wish me luck!

I found out about this band via a friend who asked me to perform one of their songs at a gig with him. I like their earlier, more technical and math-rock-ish stuff better, but this album and the previous one are still very enjoyable. They are indie-pop with a really quirky twist and unusual playing.
