Vinyl Me Pauly (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

@TenderLovingKillerĀ® - Orville Peck is a great artist and I’m very happy he’s super popular (I remember he did two sold out shows in Melbourne earlier this year and the both shows had a venue upgrade due to demand). I like the simple guitar playing in ā€œNo Glory In The Westā€ but I don’t like the vocals on the song and I don’t like the progression of the song vocally too. I feel bad but I’ve listened to the track 4-5 times and it’s just not for me. And I think it’s the vocals mainly that really put me off.
Summertime is a much better song šŸŽµ albeit a cover. You should check it out before writing Orville Peck 🤠 off.

Hey @NathanRicaud - if you're looking for more country you may like.

THIS!

One of the best songwriters alive.

I saw recently that this Lori McKenna album is your favourite Country album of 2020 so far! This album is very faithfully country, and I just couldn’t get into this at all unfortunately. Her album has that homegrown, stereo-typical country sound that I just can’t get into at all.

Patsy Cline I really enjoy though, but she doesn’t have that sound in her music at all! Her music has a lot of blues guitar, a bit of a doo-wop/soul sound as well and Patsy Cline’s voice is so rich, deep and soulful. And I love jolly tracks such ā€œWalkin’ after Midnightā€ with the blues guitar and swinging, assertive vocals!

I think there needs to be a bit of a crossover for me. Like Willie Nelson’s Stardust was a crossover of pop, soul & blues. Loretta Lynn Coal Miner’e Daughter I enjoyed because Loretta’s vocals are somber, and have a cabaret quality to them on that release. The music feels a bit vintage with a modern touch and I like the guitar playing on the release a lot too. Dolly Parton I just had to buy because of those two iconic tracks; I Will Always Love You & Jolene. I did enjoy the album though! It’s sweet and the vocals are very passionate.

It looks so beautiful! I want a copy of it even though I’m getting the Wax Buyers Club variant; which also actually looks stunning! But this VMP mock-up is the best looking one (if it actually ends up looking like this)! I’m excited to see people posting their copies on Reddit! šŸ˜‚šŸ‘€

I just can’t with Country. I can’t force myself but it just really isn’t for me unless it’s Patsy Cline or Max DeMarco or Stardust by Willie Nelson! I’m not even a fan of At Folsom Prison by Johnny Cash. That’s my music taste...it’s very non-country. I’m trying but just can’t...šŸ™ˆšŸ˜¶

PS - I didn’t enjoy the Orville Peck song. I can’t even critique it because that sound just isn’t for me at all...

Fair enough try this on for size šŸ¤ šŸŒˆšŸ³ļøā€šŸŒˆā¤šŸ§”šŸ’›šŸ’ššŸ’™šŸ’œ Hee-haw!

My mom introduced me to good country music by blaring this song in the car and singing along:
Definitely a regular on my playlists today. I probably should get explore some more ā€œoutlaw countryā€

Haven’t checked out yet, but there’s 17 copies left of Whitney Houston, so I’m safe! I’m definitely buying the Afro-Peruvian Classics, and The Bar-Kays’ Cold Blooded! I’m also going to add the AP pressing of Willie Nelson’s Stardust!

I’m just listening to Salt-N-Pepa’s Black Magic! I think I’m going to get it, but am just re-visiting it! I know the pressing is going to sound amazing like the Salt-N-Pepa ROTM! It’s 45RPM as well, which is awesome! I love the singles from the album too! The production on that album is pretty good actually!

I kind of also want to get the Gabriel Garzon too but I think the colour variant is a bit underwhelming! I like the two singles from that album so far, but think I’ll just wait until the album fully gets released!

Seriously Nathan, just tell us which VMP records you don't end up getting :D

I've heard a lot of people compare Orville Peck's voice to Morrissey, I don't know Orville's music well enough to judge the accuracy of that but would you say that comparison is fair? If so, do you like the Smiths?
I love The Smiths Gap! I find Morrissey’s voice quite different to Orville Peck’s voice. Orville Peck’s voice is way more twangy, deep and really has that outlaw sound in comparison. Totally different for me!

Orville Peck's vocals sounds more like a cross between Roy Orbison and Chris Issak to me but can also channel Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash on certain songs such as "No Glory in the West".
