    J-Jazz (Japanese Jazz)

file under J-Jazz adjacent... it's been a bit since I've gone back through the recently very rare and I guess highly collectable Whynot Label, because let's face it, of the 16 or 17 records put out by this highly curated Kenwood/Trio owned sub label, only about half of them are even listenable...

yeah, its just a killer record and and been on my grail list for decades...im surprised how under the radar it has stayed given how much 'collecting' of the SE catalog has taken place of the last few years

+1 here - nice recap on Strata RH...and agree, Tolliver and Cowell were the "business" side of the label and probably knew the value of the tapes, that said their output is the most easily accessible (price/quantity wise) of the whole SE catalog if looking for originals. I would love AAA of GSH...

some 70's soul first pressings from Japan with very rare obis - the Otis Clay is a top 5 all time record for me, and maybe the greatest male soul heartbreak record all time (I probably have 4 copies of this record, but had never found this version with the obi, ok Ill admit I have a problem ;-))...

    J-Jazz (Japanese Jazz)

interestingly...the one J-Jazz title I was considering pickup from RSD here was the late period/recent recording of Tsuyoshi Yamamoto, also released in direct print jacket - so instead I picked up the bill Evans mono for roughly the same price...premium cost = premium packaging, very...

plenty of enjoyable sessions on Pablo...no reason to hate...IMO these artists were in more relaxed settings, familiar lineups, etc and the music reflects that, and the actual times these were recorded in... but Chad is a marketer, and Concord is in the business of selling music, and physical...

    J-Jazz (Japanese Jazz)

Just received my copy of the latest Project Re: Vinyl - Ryusei Tomoyose 'Dah Nah' - music-wise it's a session that probably should have come out earlier than some of the jazz-rock meanderings and definitely the free-jazz nonsense (IMO :-)) that has been populating this series for the last 18...

    J-Jazz (Japanese Jazz)

Sony owns the catalog...clearly they sense $$ and international distribution so doubt there will be any more licensing....interestingly my Mine had a small warp which is very rare for new Japanese vinyl...

    J-Jazz (Japanese Jazz)

definitely good sounding but the real surprise was the 1982 victor Japan press of D-Train's 'Youre the one for me' for ¥400...thing kills it....80's classic and a great press

    The Blue Note Thread

I have a couple dozen titles and they really are incredible, but I paid release price or less - but given the delta now, the juice probably isn't worth the squeeze, I also remember them being in the bins at a lot of local LA stores 8-10 years ago, ...I also wish they weren't gatefolds, but...
