The OC9XEN is a fine cartridge; you'll have fun with it once you're back up and running.

Late to this party… At least there was a ball bearing. I don’t trust the MoFi’s that have a domed shaft as a bearing and no ss or ceramic ball. I’m old school.

The MP-110 is my go-to recommendation between $100 and $150.

Phono Cartridges - Your favorites and least favorites?

About $225 for MP-500 and $200 for MP-300. Could be less from CDJapan. Relative price won’t be driving this decision, but I don’t want to buy both.

Phono Cartridges - Your favorites and least favorites?

I’ve got a Nagaoka MP-300 that’s getting a little long in the tooth - time for a stylus swap soon. So do I go back to the elliptical MP-300 stylus or upgrade to the MP-500 line contact stylus? Anyone heard both? I’ve liked the Hana SL, Hana ML and the 2M Bronze in the past, so I’m leaning...

For some reason, my 8.75” tonearm now feels so … inadequate. Extra long tonearms, ceiling mirrors, SPU cartridges - are we sure this isn’t the speakerporn thread? 😂

Face it, now that the D-03X is staying and you still want a removable headshell, the Luxman amp and CD player really want a little brother! 😈😂 https://www.stereophile.com/content/luxman-pd-151-mark-ii-record-player

Ask @Russ I - he’s had his Garrard with a 12” SME tonearm for about a year now. At last take, he loved it!

So agree. For my last milestone birthday, my wife hired a jazz trio to come play in our house while we had a private chef make and serve dinner. The best birthday present I *ever* got and convinced me that live jazz at home is a far better value than a gazillion dollar stereo system. Oh...

Also feel free to experiment with 200 ohm and 1000 ohm loading - it hurts nothing to do so.

You may want to note the sale as “off” in the Buy/Sell/Trade forum, as it appears to still be on. Just in time, too, as that Luxman was speaking to me. Whew!

I understand that diminishing returns feeling. I would have been surprised if the Lumin had blown the Luxman out of the water.

Cables - one of the most taboo subjects in audio

Agree - a ground cable is most often needed to reduce hum. The RCA does not have to have an integrated ground wire, though. Just about any copper cable will do for a ground cable.

Cables - one of the most taboo subjects in audio

No, but you'd want to know what the capacitance of each option if you are using a MM cartridge. Capacitance and shielding tend to be the biggest variables with cables from the TT to the phono. Capacitance matters much less if you are using a MC cart and no SUT.

    What's Spinning

I find jewel cases can be easily broken, especially when shipped as new. The used CD sellers on Discogs are generally much more mindful of careful packaging for shipping.
