I agree on American Beauty. The 45 is better but it’s nice to not have to get up every 8 minutes. Honestly, the 45 rpm pressing is one of the best pressings I have of any record but the Rhino 33 is also really good. I’d say it’s on par with my original green label pressing. I’m quite happy with it.
I have the 2013 cut by Sean Magee and it’s such a great sounding record. The bass is insane. Surprised they had Tim Young cut a different master but he always does great work. Do you have the 2013 or an OG to compare?
So to follow up on the Violent Femmes box, I ended up buying a Kevin Gray pressing from a fine fellow in Canada on Discogs. Paid a bit more than I’d like but I’m incredibly glad to say that this is how the record should sound.
Comparing the KG cut to the box cut is light and day. The KG has an...
If T Rex includes Ride a White Swan or if they add it as a 7” single, then I’ll get it. If not, well I already have a UK original. It’s a solid album though! Would’ve rather they did Slider, Tanx, or Dandy though.
This is correct though all the 80’s albums are really quite good. Vini Reilly is a hell of guitar player. Played on the first Morrissey solo album too.
Wow just got the new Violent Femmes box and what a complete and utter disappointment for the studio album. I was under the impression Kevin Gray was cutting the whole box but it looks like it’s just the same current pressing that’s out there...
Looks like the Spotify edition was the same as the store exclusive clear. But yeah, hopefully they don’t cancel. Indie store exclusive with alternate cover.
For the Island years (and I think I posted this here a few months back) Rain Dogs was not good and is possibly the quietest record I have ever owned. I have to crank it to almost 3 o clock for it to sound remotely good and need to crank the volume at least 4-5 clicks to match the OG in volume...
The original US pressings of Remain In Light and Talking Heads 77 are better than the reissues he did too, imo, but that likely comes down to preference. I can’t think of an album he’s done that I hated the mastering of.
Supposedly he is bashing it for not sounding how Verlaine intended (whatever that means). I haven’t listened yet. I take his views with a grain of salt but I tend to agree with some of what he has to say.
I’ve never had an early UK release, but this sounds much better than any US release I’ve had. But yeah Sweet Leaf in particular does not sound good. The rest of the album is quite a bit better though. I think it’s probably the best pressing readily available (assuming they keep repressing this).
