What music should I play: audiophile event

I’m a member of a local audiophile club, and I’ll be hosting and showcasing my system next month. I plan to play 5 tracks for my showcase, but only 1 on vinyl. I’m torn on what that one should be, so I wanted to open it up for discussion and ideas. So for the short list includes Daft Punk, The...

Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

All part of the many reasons I don't think this is really a viable business if I'm honest. So two things here: Spiritland - this is just a bar/restaurant that is using vinyl and hifi as the gimmick. I think this concept totally works, and I think just having vinyl spinning live is enough...

Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

The bar meets Hifi sort of space is a concept I've heard of before and I know exists in some places. That would change my recommendations considerably, but I'm also not sure $30K really cuts it. In my opinion for an actual hifi lounge to survive, it almost needs to follow a movie theater model...

Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

50-60 people in a retail environment? I would do what one of our local record stores does (Josey Records) Stage on one side with a PA. DJ booth on the other side with a PA. Set it up so both PAs can be used as a single system with controls in the DJ booth. If they have a performance in the...

Cables - one of the most taboo subjects in audio

Anyone have strong opinions of using a dedicated phono cable over a standard RCA innerconnect going from TT to phono stage?

This is the best advice. Sometimes you need to stop overthinking the math and just listen. It’s easy enough to try it.

I remember when this was almost exactly reversed. Right before the Napster and Limewire era.

I think the paycheck MASSIVELY overrides any bad optics that come from this. As a matter of fact, if Billie really wanted to defend it she could easily make large contributions to things like oil spill cleanups and emissions causes. Arguing the extra cash makes a bigger impact than the carbon...

How do people feel about new Billie Eilish? No singles, no song titles. Said she wants to put it all out at once. https://store.billieeilish.com/products/hit-me-hard-and-soft-standard-vinyl

Anyone had a pressing take your cart four wheeling?

Appreciate it, but I’m about done with this journey. That is a cool looking device though. Just looked it up.

Anyone had a pressing take your cart four wheeling?

My Fiona collection is complete for now, but if a better plant puts out a new pressing, I'd repurchase it.

Anyone had a pressing take your cart four wheeling?

Well here's something fascinating. The Grado (Green maybe?) on that table had no issues tracking and didn't have nearly as much movement. Not sure what to make of that other than maybe the UD is finding issues deep in the groove that the Grado can't reach. And those movements being exasperated...

Anyone had a pressing take your cart four wheeling?

I didn't look into the pressing plan of origin, but it wouldn't shock me.

Just now spinning the replacement. It's playing through, but it's still REALLY making the cart work. Same track. It's so unusual. I'm going to keep this copy, but boy is this strange. I'm going to try it on our UTurn downstairs next and see if a lesser table can track it.

Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

I want to do this experiment with friends that know nothing about audio at some point. I've done it with one friend only changing the coax from the CD player to the dac. He didn't say any specifically sounded better or worse, but that he could easily tell the difference between them.

Agree, it gets competitive at that price point. And all are probably over kill for most systems. But the new LTA Aero really caught my attention.

Geshelli does have a new DAC starting to make its way around audio shows. Dual mono, loads of inputs, custom wood casing. Starting under $2k if I recall correctly. https://geshelli.com/dayzee/

I've said it before and I'll say it 10,000 more times: I think the output stage is substantially more important than the DAC chip.
