    Incoming! The New Equipment Thread

Was looking at the table today on the What's Spinning thread. Thorens, SME and Shure ... what's not to love?

Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

The new Topping B200 power amp has some astounding qualities regarding noise and distortion. Also, I think "B150" would have been a better moniker as 200W seems to be a bit of a reach. Nonethless, for someone looking for exceptionally clean power (even cleaner than the AHB2) at a lower price...

Phono Cartridges - Your favorites and least favorites?

Anyone have experience with the Dynavector 10x5 that they’d like to share? I’ve heard they perform well with my VPI table.

The Technics Turntable Fan Club - Questions, Advice, Discussion

Ground loops can sometimes form if there is a powered device between the phono preamp and the input of the integrated amp. If you suspect you have a ground loop, first make sure all of the powered devices (phono pre, lokius, and integrated amp) are all connected to the same power strip or...

Although I love hearing about other people's upgrades, sitting here on a Sunday afternoon with my original KEF LS50 speakers on a 20-year-old integrated amp listening to Oscar Peterson is an exercise in contentment. Sometimes it's delightful to fully enjoy what I have versus chasing what I don't.

Agree - the Acoustic Solid is a much better long-term bet. A Sorane TA-1 tonearm could be a lovely upgrade later. https://www.enjoythemusic.com/magazine/equipment/0518/Acoustic_Solid_Xtended_MPX_Turntable_WTB370_Tonearm_Review.htm

A bit late in memoriam, but with no less honor to this life which was lost. RIP Roberta Flack.

Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

Just like you can buy adapters that allow you to connect balanced outputs to RCA inputs, it’s possible you can find a DIN cable that does this same function. However, the turntable is not designed for that. I’m sure that it is possible to make it work, but it may require a different cable...

This is one of the references I saw that suggests that the True Balanced design does not support typical MM cartridge designs. I saw a better reference than this one earlier and will amend the post with an edit if I find it...

Stylistically, an all black MC cart like the Hana SH Mk I might be a fit but the options would be limited which fit with the aesthetic.

The Project has decent reviews, but I believe it will require scrupulous care to maintain it’s look. That level of care would be okay maybe for the first 6 months, but likely would become a burden beyond that. It also may not be able to accept normal “unbalanced” MM carts, which limits cart...

Step Up Transformers - SUT Thread

Truth. I purchased a standalone SUT before I purchased my two additional phonos that have embedded SUTs. In reflection, I would have been better served (in my price range of cartridges) exploring high output MC carts into a high quality MM phono. I purchased the SUTs and phonos because I...

Step Up Transformers - SUT Thread

The short answer for your gain question is "yes". You can make up a shortfall of SUT gain with additional gain in your 20/20. But, realize that the whole reason for getting the SUT probably was to reduce phono gain noise.

Step Up Transformers - SUT Thread

This article from Hagerman Technology discusses how to calculate impedance in a SUT: Hagerman Technology LLC: Cartridge Loading The key message: "Simply put, the impedance differs by the square of the turns ratio. For a 1:10 (20dB) step-up, the impedance is transformed by a factor of 100. That...
