    Sutherland Club House

What I really wish I’d tried before moving my Insight along was to use it with a SUT. I do like what SUTs have done with my other phonos and wish I had given the Insight that chance, too. Even without the SUT, I only could find fault with the Insight in a direct, head-to-head bake off. I...

    Klipsch Speakers Thread

The Forte requires 1W to get to 99 dB (at one meter away). The L100 produces 90 dB at the same power input and distance. To get 99 dB requires about 8W of power into the JBL. This is why high sensitivity speakers can sound good at low volumes, because the speakers will displace more air with...

    Sutherland Club House

I have a reckless nostalgia for my old Insight these days. Despite owning better sounding phonos, I still think about the Insight often. Perhaps because it was my first “audiophile” phono, I do remember it fondly.

The Technics Turntable Fan Club - Questions, Advice, Discussion

Manufacturing requires wide infrastructure (water utilities, electricity, transportation) which is extremely difficult to “set up overnight” on uninhabited islands without a labor force. Retaliatory tariffs will hurt US audio manufacturers who heavily depend on exports and US audio dealers who...

Nothing very fancy. I’ve wanted to get a digital watch for years, so I got a Tissot PRX Digital on a deep discount.

The Technics Turntable Fan Club - Questions, Advice, Discussion

Tariffs may not double the price for an individual item, but they can soak up discretionary income. They can spike consumer demand and inflation on existing inventory. They can incite profiteering. All kinds of nasty pricing stuff across supply chains. I did not accelerate plans to retip my...

Yes - tariffs will fuck up your plan. Just purchased a laptop tonight to replace my old HP because … China. Consider pre-owned.

My “listening room” is our living room which has a 100-year-old upright piano in it. To say that it screwed up the sound of the room when we moved it in is an understatement. I have adjusted to it since then.

MoFi UltraDeck / StudioDeck Owners and those interested

I do low tech; I use a metal yardstick to extend the line of sight across the pivot point. Not as much fun, but it works fine.

I don’t use a wall mount, but have liked the stuff I’ve gotten by Pangea. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_325WMSSE2B/Pangea-Audio-Vulcan-Turntable-Wall-mounted-Premier-SE-Shelf-MKII.html

15 years ago, I had the same speakers, power amp and preamp in my main rig as I do today, but no turntable at all. I did not purchase my first turntable and phono preamp until 2016. I had a NAD five disc CD changer in 2015 that was later replaced with an Integra 6 disc. I used the changer as...

    Bearing oil suggestions

Is the oil for the Feickert? If so, I thought the Blackbird had an inverted bearing. Those typically use grease rather than oil. I’ve seen the Super Lube grease recommended for VPI inverted bearing turntables.

    Bearing oil suggestions

For the oil well bearing in my VPI turntable, I use Super Lube. VPI recommends automobile motor oil. The choice of oil is not critical since the speeds and loads are low.

Age does tend to amplify ones audio hardware choices. At 35, I had a NAD preamp that was already 15 years old, a Proton amp I purchased from a mail order ad, a pair of Boston Acoustics tower speakers with 20 gauge wire inside, and a boombox with a CD player in the top of it.

Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

I’m not so sure the new Bryston owners are as committed to value as the prior ones were. The new Bi-200 integrated amp, at US$8500, is both pricey and ugly. I’m sure it performs well, but I’d rather take my $8500 to buy a Luxman L-507Z. The 4B Cubed is still a champion power amp, but the...
