The stylus type is not the only thing that matters. The cartridge mass and the suspension compliance also make a difference in how it will perform in a given tonearm.
The ML had a longer break-in period for me than the SL. On a couple of my decks, the ML never did shine more brightly than the SL. I did find much better synergy with the ML on the Luxman knife-edge tonearm.
I still think the SL Mk 1 was the sweet spot for me. I'm not sure if the Mk 2...
The Hana SH is a great gateway into MC carts if you have a phono like the Cambridge Duo. The Duo has good MM input quals for its price point and the SH can leverage that input. The SH Mk 1 models are still available at reduced cost. The SAE 1000LT is an even better deal if you can find one.
If...
For a direct drive, it’s probably not user serviceable as the spindle is directly connected to the motor. The motor itself may be askew. At that point, I’d be looking to either send it into KAB Electronics for repair or to seek a replacement. Before doing either, I’d consult a service manual...
After a quick read of the SoundStage review of the STR2 phono inputs, I’d recommend the MH version used with the Anthem’s MM input. This would make the best combo with the higher voltage output from the Hana MH.
I have the Hana ML on my Luxman and it would be a good choice for a turntable at this price point. The choice of a ML or a MH comes down to your phonostage. What phono preamplifier are you planning to use?
I think it's more about having a system that is already above or near $100K and not wanting to have a "plebian" $4500 turntable to hold a $5K+ cartridge. Optics matter to the people who spend that much, especially when you're chasing diminishing returns in performance. The measured performance...
Actually, I'm not clear that the 1300G actually outperforms the 1200G. I've not seen any measurements to that effect yet. The 1000R still is clearly at the top of the performance heap, even considering the newer motor/controller designs.
Competing in the $10K - $20K bracket soon becomes...
The Masterdeck has very tough competition and it does not have the same provenance as others. I've seen several engineering design related issues with the MoFi decks and spending $6K on one would not give me confidence. The Luxman is right there as a plug-and-play and the Volare and the 1300G...
