    Vinyl Me Please Classics

Looks like mono labels…I’m a little torn because it’s a great album that I only have on CD (90s era Atlantic box set), but I’m really not all that interested in mono when there’s a stereo tape. It’s hard to swap an album like that though.

    Vinyl Me Please Classics

Listened to this last night - it's really good! Dinah is great, the backing band is super and gets a lot of solo space, and it sounds good too (especially for 1955).

New ultrasonic vinyl cleaner in the works: Humminguru

I only realized TTL was selling these after I got mine yesterday direct from Humminguru. It would have been $28 cheaper to buy from TTL (but tax would kill the savings if you're in NY). On the bright side, it works pretty well so far!

So does the digital step just apply to the one steps? Or is it Mofi-wide?

I think I'm the exact opposite! I have a few original/early and Japanese Blue Notes which are good/fine but I love the Boom Boom masterings of the BN recordings. Sometimes I play my old BNs and think "well...KG will get to it someday" lol.

Has anyone ever tried to get a refund from Record City for misgraded records? I just got a big box of records from Record City that were all graded EX and the LPs are just filthy - tons of dirt, fingerprints, stuff that looks like mold, scratches, etc. I’m hoping most issues will clean out...

    Darlington Labs MM-6 USA Tour

I finally tried to do a "shoot out" between the Vincent Pho 8 and the Darlington Labs MP7. The Vincent was at a disadvantage because I listened to it second and didn't give it time to warm up (since I was trying to keep the MP7 impressions fresh in my mind). Also, this kind of stuff is kind of...

    Darlington Labs MM-6 USA Tour

Sorry I never followed up - I’ve been enjoying the MP7 so much I haven’t switched back to the Pho 8 to compare. My initial impression was that the bass was more present and the overall sound had more zing and pep with the MP7, but I really do want to switch back at some point to confirm these...

    Darlington Labs MM-6 USA Tour

I just got a new MP7 in the mail yesterday that is also replacing a Vincent Pho 8 (Technics 1200/AT VM95ML). I haven't had much time to use it yet. But I was planning on letting it warm up for a few days and then play a record back to back with the Vincent swapped in to see what the...

I’ve never preordered anything from AS. If you order in stock items >$49 and preorder other stuff, does everything get free shipping? Or will they charge shipping for the preorders when they come in stock?

Could I please be added to the list? I was planning on getting an MP7 at some point but it’d be great to try this model out before buying. I’d be comparing against a Vincent Pho 8.

Yeah I agree, Byrd did not have a good solo. Dexter’s sound is great and his solo is ok but goes a bit too long for me. I liked Kenny Drew’s solo though. I think musically, maybe side 2 is better, but the whole thing sounds really good!

    Wharfedale Linton 85th Anniversary Review

I’m thinking about getting these speakers and I think I have a dealer near me (although not sure that they offer demos...I’ll have to call). But I was wondering for those that have them, how far away from the back wall do you place them? I don’t have a lot of flexibility there as I sit about 8...

Yeah I’m probably spreading misinformation by posting stuff like this, but someone was complaining that the TP 2021 list doesn’t have any Ornette, Larry Young, or Tony Williams and user Gabe Walters said “Patience will be rewarded.” He’s mentioned a few times he’s aware of something he can’t...

There are no details right now, but someone with insider knowledge on SHF is hinting there will be some sort of reissue of more avant BN titles in the near future. I really hope this is a) true and b) an ongoing series. Ornette/Cecil/Moncur/Hill/Cherry/Rivers/McLean/Tyrone Washington/Larry...

I got to listen for the first time last night. I was distracted for part of it, but the part I wasn't distracted for sounded really good. The drum sound on this LP seems especially good and Lex Humphries tearing it up doesn't hurt either!

For me, it’d have to be We Get Requests. It’s a great sounding recording and the musicianship is impeccable. The break of silence between the melody statement and Oscar‘s solo in “Have You Met Miss Jones“ is one of my favorite things in all of music, plus Ray Brown‘s bass solos are amazing...
