If the Discogs information is correct then it was Bernie Grundman who mastered/cut this.

With AS’ recent lack of sales and pricing philosophy it might have been the ”Classic” example of Hobson’s choice... (oh, the fun puns to be had...)

I decided to pickup the Hobson Archive Set 2. All of it. Seemed like a smashing deal...

Seeing this a bit late, but hoping you stuck to your decision. Even if the vinyl was NM, that box is in rough shape (Maybe VG at best, I would probably grade it G+). My guess is that vinyl is VG+ at best and I would think $500 (max) is more than fair for a VG/VG+ Beatles box in today’s market...

Yes, these are definitely returns as I’ve seen a few of mine pop-up. I hope the person that bought them is a lot less picky than I am as I would not have graded them nearly as high and would have disclosed a few more issues. These are definitely being sight graded and not play graded.

The mono box was cut by Ryan Smith with Marino at his side while Ryan was apprenticing with Marino. There are no initials on the US versions just the STERLING stamp (traditionally indicating a Marino cut), but STERLING and RKS are on subsequent pressings and the EU versions. Allegedly they...

The “smiley face” eq trope for early MoFi‘s might be the most over-discussed underwhelming issue in audiophiledom. What mastering choices that are there are relatively minimal and nearly all the early MoFi’s sound good to great, if not definitive. I highly recommend people listening to...

The original version, or at least the set I have, was cut half speed by Stan Ricker. (SR/2 clearly in deadwax.)

Where are you finding the Lou Reed? I haven’t been able to find a copy and have been looking since before Christmas.

I also highly recommend the recent MoFi Ry albums and just picked up the SC “Paradise and Lunch” and plan to compare that to the MoFi if it ever gets out of USPS purgatory.

Assume you’ve heard/streamed the album and like the music... I’m a huge Ry fan and this is one of his hidden gems. The new SC sounds phenomenal, like Ry in your room three-dimensional. I have the old MFSL that goes for ridiculous money and the vinyl on that issue is a tad quieter, but I think...
