Help me build a small system...for living in Japan

so thanks everyone for their help with this little project - the final system is in and couldn't be happier...both the JBL L82 classic and the Luxman 505u are being end of lifed for MK2 and 505z models so I was able to get fairly amazing deals on both older models brand new, even more so...

interestingly I just picked up Bud Shank's earlier surf soundtrack Slippery When Wet as the 1990s Japanese press for equivalent $7 in NM- - very cool, cool jazz...lots of flute, which I think Bud plays rather compactly which I like....defo worth a pick up, although I haven't heard this slightly...

    Vinyl Bars Japan

in fact I do....;-) there are so many a simple google search of any area will point you in many directions...in my opinion the best listening bars are more bar than listening...these are all Tokyo...there are also a ton in Kyoto/osaka - but with everything in Japan I usually find its best to...

    Jazz in the 1980's Thread

I've been collecting indie 80's jazz for awhile and there are plenty of hidden gems...Theresa was recently discovered by Pure Pleasure (although I think this might have more to do with Pharoh Sanders) - many of these sessions are fantastic, pressed at RTI and sound incredible.... The John Hicks...

    Jazz in the 1980's Thread

A strange period...generally. The MTV Era began...The emergence of the CD and the dying breath of vinyl....Music was in a very transitory place and many of the old guard musicians were heading to retirement age...but still able to swing, jam and cook with the best of them But, there was some...

Help me build a small system...for living in Japan

so a small update...as my record collection is Japan is growing steadily (living here is dangerous for the wallet) I decided on a Technics 1500C - the local price is 130K yen and in the strangest coincidence, a friend of mine visiting from Australia wanted to buy one as well so the tax free...

better act quick...his stuff goes fast...pro-tip on condition, while accurate, his grading is more on the American/UK side...but I've never mailordered from him, only bought in store...

thanks...yes VMP handled it well, the only thing being they can't QC the shipment before sending and I doubt ill received them before I take off, so hopefully these won't be warped. Craft said no go, 60 days limit...a years worth of record deliveries to clean is quite the task!

nice one Huddle! yeah, im in the middle of warp returns from VMP as well, literally the only part of these records that touch the platter is the spindle hole...ive stopped buying BBE completely, but couldn't pass up the Masaru Imada Planets, which I bought from amazon, but unfortunately, I only...

yeah...those curation guys have some cool records, but BBE physical product sucks ass....literally every record is warped beyond. its a hard pass on anything coming from this label until someone acknowledges their very series QC problems. there are too many other records to buy.

Help me build a small system...for living in Japan

hey Angsty...haven't moved into my new accommodation yet so holding off until I'm a bit more settled...so now just living amongst the records bought for playing soon (I hope!) will update once system purchased....I like the idea of used luxman integrated, but haven't really had any more time...

    Definitive Audiophile pressings

I'll have to go back to this as I don't remember this being especially great - JMHO but you should be careful with later Japanese Motown presses - in general there are multiple issues of these albums as many were from huge artists - like Mr. Gaye - In general I feel that 2nd and 3rd presses from...

sidenote: found a minty copy of Bernard Wright's 'Nard record a few days ago on the cheap, wrong thread, but its such a legend of a record and so 1981....no wonder its been sampled so much, (cough Andre Young....)

very glad of all the 'free-er' stuff this is getting a reissue because it's mostly approachable even for someone like me who just doesn't go there...and for me its George Cables on keys, as im just a huge fan of his....but is this a buy and listen once.... oh wait....these days they're all buys...
