anyone pick up the new Metheny BSL reissue?? interested in thoughts...I have a noisy US (that looks clean) and a JP 2nd press that I think is actually pretty good....but discogs looks really varied - anyone with experience with this record have a say...its one of my favorites

    J-Jazz (Japanese Jazz)

again, respectfully disagree - not with your musical choices, horses for courses, of course...but there has been a real moment in j-jazz that TBM has mostly missed. Look at what Ogawa-san is doing with project re:vinyl and what Think! (disunion) started - these all sell out and most have been...

    J-Jazz (Japanese Jazz)

respectfully disagree, although I can understand my usage of the word equivalent may have been misused - my intention was that tbm is the most famous j-jazz label and has fame because of that, just like bn is the most famous jazz label. your point is correct from audiophiles, but id say that...

    J-Jazz (Japanese Jazz)

Japanese companies, Japanese thinking, everything is complicated here...but they missed a moment to really cement TBM as a 'blue note' equivalent and create more 'fans' just like BN has done with tone poets...

    J-Jazz (Japanese Jazz)

sony has been very active with represses here, so I would imagine if these sell out they will repress...but jazz is a fickle beast and timing is everything...I wish I worked in their marketing department, they have no idea how to create demand, only respond to it....

Would you sell it all for the high discogs value???

Discogs is just my cataloging system and very rarely purchase anything, but it would be so easy for them to add more context to each sale so that the pricing data would be that much richer (maybe they provide this to big sellers so they can match the dynamics) - it would take a few key strokes...

Would you sell it all for the high discogs value???

exactly this...my collection is 55-60% Japanese pressings bought in Japan so I have lots of rarer stuff that doesn't show so much variation between low and high, and focused on jazz and soul/r&b where anything that isn't like private press super rare has a more steady appreciation - but if...

Would you sell it all for the high discogs value???

yeah, high discogs is full retail on best conditions, so even if your collection was equal on condition, you're never getting retail unless your selling individually...but if really equal on condition thought maybe median was possible, especially if rare stuff, not just high prices on everyday...

Would you sell it all for the high discogs value???

interesting....Ive never looked into it, but figured it was something like that

Would you sell it all for the high discogs value???

its really the only way to get that kind of money....I doubt any dealers would even touch discogs median....

Would you sell it all for the high discogs value???

even though my collection has about 10% without any recent price history (and most are valuable)...the very simple answer... fuck yes. take it all...even though I still buy, id even throw in the 'guru and my VPI cleaner

    J-Jazz (Japanese Jazz)

yeah definitely rare...I really hope they go back to tip-on sleeves as the last couple were direct prints, would have been nice to see these with replica obi instead of the pink project re:vinyl as I think they generally look better, but Ogawa-san does a really good job on sound considering...

    J-Jazz (Japanese Jazz)

this is a big deal...never seen in the wild here....also Sony Japan is starting a reissue campaign for many of the titles in the project re:vinyl series so Im sure they will get wider distribution...

    Jazz

lets talk Muse....I wish I knew more about this label, ive picked up a few or three dozen titles over the last many years collecting and they are generally great sessions and almost always great sounding on vinyl...besides that you can kinda always tell a muse label record by the "almost right"...

    J-Jazz (Japanese Jazz)

picked up a bit of a grail today, TBM-31, Takashi Mizuhashi - Who Cares - at an expensive but seemingly reasonable price of 12K yen, no obi sleeve strong VG++, vinyl NM- and with a spin thru the 'guru its definitely silent...and while ive been trying not to buy records (Highly unsuccessfully)...

Let's talk about Nilva records... I'll freely admit I don't know much about Alvin Queen. But he must have been living in Europe for quite a while playing with just about everyone and his little label that could Nilva has a ton of fun sessions (and some really bad ones too). Yes there's a free...

    J-Jazz (Japanese Jazz)

although, ive never heard the ones that were issued in Europe, I think the label is Le Tres Jazz or something (no idea if legal, etc) you cannot go wrong with any TBM album produced in Japan, they are all degrees of excellent, although I am lucky enough to have quite a few and do think the OGs...
