I'm with you, I really like the new Charli XCX and I was disappointed in the recent Dua Lipa. The other pop album I've really enjoyed this year, which helped me get past my disappointment with the Dua Lipa album is the latest from Empress Of, which is excellent imo.

Descriptions I read included calling the overall sound "extremely flat." Others complained of like a light "buzzing" which sounds like a constat surface noise issue. There were enough complaints that I decided to stay away.

I have heard overwhelming bad things about the sound quality of the Californication vinyl, so it's really a shame they didn't remaster this for the anniversary press.
