Floor speakers that are good but light to move? Also bookshelf speaker question

Just upgraded my speakers to the KEF LS50 Metas and am very happy with them, but it's a good idea to pair with a subwoofer. I also discovered the importance of decent speaker stands. I ended up getting Pangea audio LS300's and some sorbothane hemispheres to use as speaker feet. I also filled...

Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

The phono stage is being upgraded as well. The MM-6 is being built as we speak. I think this is fair. The Yamaha brings a lot of power, got it for $550, so I thought I was doubling with the Marantz PM7000N or the Cambridge CXA81. I appreciate the advice and will probably pause my purchase...

Interesting, you see my current Yamaha as on par with the Marantz and better than the Cambridge?

Thank you for this. I also noticed that in the Marantz P7000N pairing, he states, ”KEF LS50 Meta is probably the perfect speaker to pair with Marantz PM7000N if you want studio-grade sound quality for your home audio system. Both the speaker and the amplifier will deliver to you a faithful...

Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

Thanks @Hollywood, I'm familiar with their recommendation but the fact that they removed tone control from the model makes me nervous and the Naim is out of my price range. From the research I've been doing, 60W @ 8 ohm should not limit me, especially in a 12' x 15' room, but I'm still researching.

Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

I’m looking for some thoughts on a new amplifier. I currently have a Yamaha A-S501 powering KEF LS50 Metas and a Dayton Audio subwoofer (also needs an upgrade). I’m considering the Cambridge Audio CXA81 and the Marantz PM7000N. I have some concerns about each: CXA81 has no tone control. My...

MoFi UltraDeck / StudioDeck Owners and those interested

I currently have the Wharfedale Diamond 220s and like their sound, they just lack some clarity in the 1k-2k range. I'll look into the Lintons. Thanks!

I went ahead and bought the Darlington MM-6 and am excited! Now I'm focused on a new pair of speakers. Any thoughts for someone who plays mostly rock, punk, indie, emo? I need something with a good, clear mid-range. I'm looking at KEF LS50 Meta or B&W 603 floor standers. Not sure if floor...

MoFi UltraDeck / StudioDeck Owners and those interested

I have this on my StudioDeck and have asked this thread previously. The general consensus was that the cue lever may need lubricant. I don't know how to add it, and have been too lazy to contact MoFi about it...

    Darlington Labs MM-6 USA Tour

Thanks for calling out your review as a direct comparison to DJ Pre. I'm strongly considering a pre-amp upgrade, and a fully loaded MM-6 seems the way to go. Still mulling it over, but it's my lead option.

    Darlington Labs MM-6 USA Tour

This is good to know, but I'm not sure this is enough for me to got to the MP-7. The quality issue I'm chasing is a muddy midrange during active passages. I feel that some of this is coming my preamp, and also from bookshelf speakers (Wharfedale Diamond 225) that I want to also upgrade soon...

    Darlington Labs MM-6 USA Tour

This thread is great, thanks all. I'm thinking of getting a sub-$500 phono stage to upgrade from my ART DJ Pre II. Looking at the options for the MM6, and I'm not sure I will ever need a mono switch. Is this purely used to play mono records? I doubt I'll spin anything that old, but I'm tempted...

Interesting about the Darlington, looks like a good option. I don’t think I’ll ever need the mono option, but I might plunge for the CMC-850 plugs if the benefit is clear. Any thoughts?

I'm thinking of upgrading my pre-amp, as right now I've got a ART DJ Pre II, which is OK, but feel I'm due for an upgrade. My budget is under $500, any recommendations? I'm considering these: Lounge LCRMKIII MM Rega Fono MM MK3

Record cleaning - what's your method?

I thought it was well-written and had good information. Unfortunately I could not find a digital copy, so sorry for the image. Do you like the Vevor? I'm looking at this one.

Record cleaning - what's your method?

I'm considering getting a Vevor. I have a small PayPal balance burning a hole and have always wanted an ultrasonic cleaner. Please keep us updated on your trip. If anyone else has experience with these "DIYs", I'd appreciate input. Right now I'm using Spin Clean and Tergikleen. Actually, the...

Everyone says that, but that has not been my experience. Maybe because I caught them in the middle of a warehouse move but they have been slow to respond to me and not attentive.

Gotta warp, these members can help. [Vinyl Flat]

Yeah, that is mostly what I aim for too. I'm finding that 75%+ of records arrive with some sort of warp, and I'm aiming to reduce the wear and tear on my stylus.

Gotta warp, these members can help. [Vinyl Flat]

Yeah, the felt pads are what I was referring to. I have not always let the VF *completely* cool/cold to the touch, so that could be the issue. Even when I have, it has required multiple cycles.

Gotta warp, these members can help. [Vinyl Flat]

I've had varying luck with dish warps, but it could be an issue with my process. I had to run a colored vinyl through 3 times, eventually setting it to two hours with the full "cushions" (I don't know what else to call them) in. I tried less time with the smaller "cushions" that are supposedly...
