The Dark Side; Digital audio equipment recommendations and setup.

My budget can be stretched, and I do like the $500-$600 range as well. It’s just that I mostly listen to vinyl and have a good DAC in my CD player so I’m not sure I should be investing a lot. If there was a killer DAC that had Bluetooth 5+, a reference DAC chip for HiRes, and a display or means...

That is cheap as chips, I might just get it to play around with! Thanks for the input, all. That Topping DX3 Pro+ is a very nice option! It's got the Sabre DAC, Bluetooth, headphone amp, and the screen is a nice touch.

I'm considering getting a DAC for my setup, my relevant components to use the DAC are: CD player - NAD C548. This has a nice Wolfson 24-bit/192kHz DAC built in. Streamer - Raspberry Pi Volumio setup with JustBoom digi hat. This requires the use of a DAC for digital output Amp - Yamaha A-S501...

    Questions about power protection

I am considering getting a surge protector for my audio equipment. I have a few questions for the experts here: I am protecting about $3,500 worth of equipment. Any recommendations? The Panamax MR4300 looks nice and should cover all my gear. Thoughts? The MR4300 supports high current equipment...

Very interesting. What is your temperature measuring for medium? I also have a question for the group. I landed a grail disc; well, it was $45, not a massive rarity, but it's in mint except for a little wobble that I want to flatten out. How much time do you all reduce for a white disc since...

Pretty much 90 minutes is the starter for me too. Are you all letting the platters cool inside the sleeve, or removing it when the time is up and letting it cool?

I agree, I'll shift to a 15 minute increase only.

I just managed to melt down one of my records. UGH. This has happened before, but that's because I accidentally left a record in for 12 hours. I completely admit to fucking that one up. But this most recent one was bizarre. My Vinyl Flat gets to about 145 degrees on High. I heated a black LP...

Record cleaning - what's your method?

I am so jealous. I keep thinking about getting one of these off of eBay.

I've had my StudioDeck + MasterTracker for about a year, and I'm noticing the stylus tension decreasing a bit. In the forum's experience, how long is your styli life? And has anyone sent their MasterTracker in for stylus refurbishing? Also considering a new cartridge and it looks like the Hana...

I see a lot of medium heat stans here. Should I not be going with hot?

Fellow Vinyl Flat owners! It's been recommended here before to wash records before placing them in the VF. What about brand new records that arrive warped? Do you all still wash those first?

@whitey019 I'm pretty sure you have the MasterTracker. I was wondering the same thing when I got mine, but the branding difference is really minimal. MasterTracker is the only one with white writing on it.

I do not have an extensive amount of TT experience. I have the MasterTracker that came with my StudioDeck. In the past, with my old Pro-Ject, I had really liked the sound from a Nagaoka MP-110 and an Ortofon 2M Blue, which I'm assuming most people would consider "bright".

Got a question for the MoFi crew. I've noticed that the vocals are a little less crisp than I'd like. I brighten the vocals up with a Bellari 4-band EQ, and it works fairly well. I'm just curious if this is the common sound profile for the MoFi StudioDeck? I don't think there is an issue with...

I run it at high almost all the time. The absolute crease gets close to 150, but that isn't a great indicator of what the plate temp is going to be, it's the hottest possible spot. It's never caused any damage to run it high. I've found that the time spent on both hot and cold is most...

I just did a quick A/B/C for analog, coaxial, and optical. The Wolfson DAC was more crisp on the high end. Thx!

The Dark Side; Digital audio equipment recommendations and setup.

I've got a question about CD players and Digital Analog Converters. I have a NAD c538 CD player that has a Wolfson 24-bit DAC. I connect this to my Yamaha a-S501 amplifier via RCA cables (decent ones), so the DAC on the cd player is used, not the Yamaha, which has a Texas Instruments PCM5101...

Floor speakers that are good but light to move? Also bookshelf speaker question

My sub is a Dayton Audio Sub-800. I mean, it's basic, but it generally does what a sub-woofer is supposed to do. Might step up someday though. Did you fill the Pangeas with sand? It actually was very easy and makes them extremely sturdy. Each stand took almost 5lb of fine grain sand.
