    Totally Tubular: The Tube Thread

I was inspired by @Slimwhit33 and put my tube amp back into service. Weather forecast is for some cold temps the next couple of weeks so the R8 can help keep my room heated.

    Totally Tubular: The Tube Thread

I’m not claiming to be a tube expert, but if everything seems to be working fine I’d keep using it but keep an eye on it for any suspicious behavior. I had bias problem on my Willsenton R8 that disappeared after some tube rolling. I do keep a close watch on that #3 socket as it seems to need...

A good night for tube heat in the Midwest. Currently 9°. Wes Montgomery is always a good choice!

What's Going On Up There- The Headphone Thread

I like the Meze 99. They are not a neutral sounding headphone, but I find them pleasant for listening to classic rock and jazz. I also have the Meze 109Pro which are an all around better sounding headphone but out of your price range. If I were you I would check out the recently released Meze...

The Dark Side; Digital audio equipment recommendations and setup.

Today is the Final Day for 20% off at High Definition Tape Transfers. I saw this site referenced in another forum I was browsing and decided to check it out. I downloaded a couple of DSD recording from them yesterday and they sound excellent. I'm sure they'll sound equally good in a PCM format...

Streaming is a great way to get a listen to records I see on ‘What’s Spinning’ before deciding to spend any money on a physical copy.

I like the streaming services and the playlist algorithms for music discovery. Pick a song and play it with the Radio feature. I’ve discovered some good music this way. I’ve also created a classic rock playlist that I put on random and it’s like listening to WPLJ , K-Rock, or WNEW back in the...

Plexamp works well. I used to use that before I got Roon and Arc. If Plex could hook into Qobuz it’d be a strong Room competitor. I believe it used to work with Tidal, but I think that’s relationship has been discontinued.

    Only Apple expects this.

Qobuz is terrible in the car. I mostly use YouTube Music with CarPlay. I’ve also started using Roon Arc with CarPlay and it works really well with Qobuz. The ideal setup would be Roon buying Qobuz. I can dream. Also, I have YouTube Music for the family plan and commercial free YouTube.

IDK. I’m not anti cable, but if you already have decent cables that would be the last thing I’d upgrade. I use Blue Jean cable from TT to phono pre. All my other interconnection are Mogami from Worlds Beat Cables. Also use WBC for speaker cables.

I agree with you. Apple Music is more trouble than it’s worth for hi-res IMO. Best options are to use iPad/iPhone as a streamer connected to a DAC, or get one of the Android based streamers like EverSolo or FIIO where you can load Apple Music to the device, or my preferred option, ditch Apple...

I’m not sure you can send a USB signal into the Node 2i and use it as a DAC. Maybe you can. But it does support Air Play 2 so you can stream from the iPad/Apple Music to the Node via AirPlay. No cables needed.

Yes. That is what you need. I use one to connect my iPhone 14 to USB DACs. You’ll still need a USB cable to connect it to a DAC. That dongle just converts the lightning port to a USB port. Not sure why you would connect your iPad to a Node. What are you trying to accomplish?

The 1200G is not a bad move. I think one of those is in my future. I’ve thought about simplifying my setup and going all Technics with an SU-R1000 and a 1200G. That maybe more of a fantasy. 😂

I’m considering a Hana S or M series myself. I’d go for one of the MoFi carts, but my assumption is they are overpriced and an AT or Hana cart would offer better value and equal or better performance. Truth be told I’m still salty about the Ultradeck price drop about 2 months after I bought...

Connect it to a USB DAC and stream from a service that provides hi- res audio. I do this all the time from my iPad. See systems 4 in my profile. Are you looking to do this with a headphone setup or a speaker based system? In either case a USB cable and USB DAC are all you need to get going.

I was thinking of adding a CD player/transport to my system and saw this mentioned a couple of months ago (Darko?). It’s at a price point and size that it would fit into my system for the rare occasion I would listen to a CD. It would also be good to have for ripping CDs.
