    Definitive Audiophile pressings

Disappointingly, I realized after talking to local friends who are progressive and pay attention to the media that nobody has a clue why I chose that username. It’s a cynical/snarky reference to a Trump lie from the first time he was in charge when, during the 2020 protests here, he said he...

Out of genuine curiosity about why it’s called “Absolute,” aren’t partial albums sort of the opposite of absolute?

    J-Jazz (Japanese Jazz)

Thx for the heads up. Megalopolis and additional J Jazz haul incoming from @Ethos99 thanks to this prompt. I already have Henderson in Japan, so don’t need Habiliment despite the track swap between the two. I have both Toki and J Jazz Vol 3 on cd but like them enough to switch to vinyl and will...

The Latest News from Neptune - a Sun Ra thread

Sweet! I gifted mine to myself, and it oversees the listening room. (And i noticed there’s an optical illusion here; the record rack does not block the speaker at all, but this photo gives the impression it does - Also, I wish I had a better space for listening to music — mine is comfortable and...

    Record Store Day 2025

I know there's RSD jazz fatigue (really, jazz fatigue generally), but in addition to Pharaoh being essential, Nathan Davis - Happy Girl is incredibly rare/expensive and really good -- so, essential for me. Features Woody Shaw and Larry Young (on piano, not organ) and what I think was the first...

Gotta warp, these members can help. [Vinyl Flat]

I would use medium, but i haven’t had any over-cook problems. However, if I was worried about it even slightly, I’d start low and short and work my way up time and temp until it goes how you want. You’ll never be worse off by under cooking.

Gotta warp, these members can help. [Vinyl Flat]

As per my comment above, if you’re not gonna spring for pi, medium with pillow on top is my friend. Pillow reduces uneven heat dissipation and keeps warmer than regular medium, and overall still much less likely to F something up due to high heat.

Really nice!! If you don’t already know, Summertime on that Jones/Davis record is straight fire, rivaled only by — possibly — the version on Shelly Manne & Men Vol. 1, which gave me a completely new understanding of Shelly Manne as a drummer. Really, I just love that song as a deconstructed...

I actually don’t think of him as controversial from a mastering (or whatever) perspective. I thought his rep is bc he’s kind of an arrogant douche (on his own forum, at least) and the forum itself can be insane (but has also been a good resource to me when looking for specific...

Feickert great for precisely lining up spindle/pivot and even better if you need to measure precise spindle-to-pivot distance, which I needed to do on my current setup. I bought Feickert used so more manageable price wise. There are also Chinese knockoffs on eBay that seem visually identical for...
