    Definitive Audiophile pressings

The CB is excellent and I recommend it, there is a mid-70s Sam Feldman pressing (that can be tricky to find but it's usually not expensive) that is the best vintage pressing. I've not heard the Classic Records pressing but audiophiles seem to rave over that one. I'm sure the AP Atlantic 75...

    Vinyl Me Please Classics

Doing mono from 1969 releases is kinda lame IMO, most stereo recordings were far superior post 1967/68. They did this with Acid as well, which is great music but I think it would've been better cut from the stereo mix. I get it when they are just trying to differentiate from a wider stereo...

    Vinyl Me, Please Rock

It won't let you since it's already sold out. Some people might swap out of it in the next few weeks and open up some spots potentially

    Vinyl Me, Please Rock

Yeah it sold out in like 3 hours, which doesn't happen very often with ROTMs

    Vinyl Me, Please Rock

I'm planning on picking that one up next month in swaps. The KPG is great but I can see it being bested. I like the original Sam Feldman pressing better anyway. Too much kick drum on the KG, it makes my subs overload if I try to crank it (and who doesn't crank this album when they play it?)...

Jack White interestingly is all about vinyl, owns a record plant, but presses all his vinyl at the worst damn place he can at United.

    Vinyl Me Please Country

Ah, I knew that one did have a tip-on, didn't know if the others did or not. I wonder if the originals did, in the early 70s some things weren't tip on anymore, and in the late 70s especially tip-ons became more scarce on new releases.

At only $22 go for the VMP and don't look back. Crank that shit.

    Vinyl Me Please Classics

I'm a stereo stan, but I feel like a lot of people will prefer the VMP mono mix, it's more cohesive and the kick drum/bottom end is more rockin'. The stereo has better sounding guitar and organ and more air in it. More defined bass.

    Vinyl Me Please Classics

Also if you feel like spending $36 on the Booker T is a bit rich for your blood, I highly recommend trying out the original stereo mix which is fantastic as well. Pretty cheap to be had VG+. This album may take a listen or two to get used to the live mix but it really rocks. The Mar-Keys /...

    Vinyl Me Please Classics

It's not audiophile but it's really rockin' and crankable. I highly recommend it, one of the top Classics releases of the year for certain. Up there with Pickett, Monk, and Hound Dog.

    Vinyl Me Please Country

If you got the RSD box set from a few years ago I believe they actually used nice tip-on jackets for those. But yeah the standard releases are flimsy standard stock. I have the KG self-titled and I thought it sounded better than the VMP. I didn't have the KG Sweet Revenge so I decided to pick...

    Vinyl Me Please Classics

1-Wilson Pickett 2-Hound Dog Taylor 3-Thelonious Monk 4-David Porter 5-Freddie Roach 6-Dave Van Ronk 7-Black Nasty 8-Odetta 9-McCoy Tyner 10-Wynton Marsalis But really 4-10 are a wash, all pretty equally excellent.

    The Blue Note Thread

I haven't been grabbing as many Tone Poets due to shelf space, cost, etc. unfortunately. Several I would like to own, but the only ones I've bought this year are Schizophrenia, Donald Byrd's At The Half Note Cafe Volume 1, and Demon's Dance and all 3 are excellent.

In the BNC series: Empyrean Isles Fuchsia Swing Song Unit Structures (if you can handle that out there free jazz stuff) Blowin' the Blues Away those are definitely essential IMO Spring and Midnight Special are fantastic as well.

Not sure but I don’t think 67 is late for mono. Lots of superior mono mixes from that year in pop and rock especially. I was initially apprehensive as well, but I heard the mono mix on YouTube and it sounds good to me

FYI the 2013 Rhino listed here is the European version which was cut by Heino Leja and isn't AAA I don't think. The US Rhino was AAA cut by Bellman

    Vinyl Me Please Essentials

I'm glad they picked a crate-digger Ray record. That's a real "lost sounds found" underrated gem. For December they always do a "Classics-leaning" Essentials ROTM. Of the Herbi records not in the Anthology, Sextant I think is the most Essential one left, that was a great pick, probably my most...
