The Official Needles and Grooves 1001 Album Generator Project (aka Preachin’ about the Preachers if today’s selection sucks)

*whispers* I actually like Slipknot….as far as nu metal goes, it’s the only thing along with System of a Down that I can get into in that genre.

I actually have this on vinyl, but I’m not sure that I’ve actually listened to it. Picked it up in a thrift store for peanuts years ago.

I have the exact same story except I was 25 when it came and it was The Modern Age off the first ep that had me surrendering. I still love this album to this day with all my heart and everything I hold dear. It’s fucking perfect.

I have an OG from 1990 on one disc and that sounds pretty great. But the standard repress from a couple of years ago might be worse? (But the discogs reviews on that are pretty solid too. And those can be had for 15-20 bucks or so.)

Never heard of her before, but the first song off this is my new favorite song! The rest kinda drifts away into a bit too much funky guitarplodding for my taste (still a fine album though), but "Down to Zero" is just magnificent! Quick recap of the the last two weeks: Ray Charles, The Who...

The Kinks was surprisingly and refreshingly unpolished and punk-ey! I've only listened to a couple of compilations with The Kinks and Ray Davis (and "Arthur" previously in the thread), before but this album was pretty solid. As I said, Waterloo Sunset is brilliant in every way, but I also fell...

Waterloo Sunset is one of the best pop songs ever written in my opinion. Haven’t listened to this album though. Weird.

Are there any Maiden album with even decent production, though? They all sound pretty flat and thin imo. One can only imagine what could’ve happened commercially if they’d got someone like Bob Rock or Mutt Lange to flesh out one of their late 80s albums.

I’m in the exact same Di’Anno/Dickinson boat. Although I still think Piece of Mind is their best album.

Are great non-album singles a strictly european/uk phenomenon? I mean bands like The Smiths, The Charlatans, Buzzcocks and (yes, I’m a Swede) ABBA released some of their best work as non album singles. And then I haven’t even opened the Beatles/Stones can of worms yet…

Same thing happened with the single Twilight Zone on Killers. These songs were actually kinda hard to come by back in the day since the singles were pretty rare, at least in Sweden. I had the original european pressing of both albums but my friend had the japanese version of Killers where...

It wasn’t on the original release. Single only, but added on the US pressing and the cd release. And yes, great song!
