The Official Needles and Grooves 1001 Album Generator Project (aka Preachin’ about the Preachers if today’s selection sucks)

Fun fact: The only song on the album that doesn't have an "E" (for "Explicit") warning on Spotify is "'97 Bonnie and Clyde" which is by far the most grisly and stomach churning song on the album. But hey, no cursing!

I have similar issues with him today, although the "dumb loudmouth assholes"-thing was less prominent in Sweden, at least with his first few albums. It is today, though. This album came out when I started to explore popular culture more intellectually as I enrolled at the university and studied...

I remember that I got swooped up in the hype around the Beta Bands first e.p:s (which I loved), and I taped the first two e.p:s from a friend who actually had a turntable and had them on vinyl back then. Then, after "The 3 e.p:s" cd, the band just disappeared from my radar. I remember...

This gave me an excuse to pick up Taylors version. I’ve always liked Swift when I heard her on the radio, but like Lee Newman, Ryan Adams version of this is what made me pick up her albums. This and Red are crowning achievements of bubbelgum pop imo, and the fact that she was barely even 25 when...

I'm almost with you on this one, but I find myself reaching for Dirty more often than Goo, so I think Dirty is my favorite. At least for the moment. This was the first I heard of Sonic Youth as well. A friend of mine taped a Metallica bootleg on a C-90 for me. It covered up part of side B of...

    YEAR END MEGALIST 2023!!!!

@Rip_City It’s been a throwback year for me. Nearly all my top albums are either from slightly older acts or are based in/inspired by the 90’s in some way. Don’t really know if that says something about me and my midlife crisis or the current era of popular culture and its nostalgia. Not that...

Solid, but I would add ”The Junkie and the Juicehead Minus Me ” to that list. ”At Folsom Prison” is in my top five live albums ever.

Love The Holy Bible. Was pretty late in my discovery of Manic Street Preachers. This was the first album I bought with them in a second hand shop while ”If you tolerate this” rotated on MTV (still a great song, btw!).

Nah. Die hard fan here, and I was pretty luke warm in my reception of that, as was most of my Springsteen-worshipping friends.

The Official Needles and Grooves 1001 Album Generator Project (aka Preachin’ about the Preachers if today’s selection sucks)

This is my favourite Springsteen album, and in my top five albums of all time. This is a peak showcase for a songwriter in the middle of a creative flow almost only matched by what Dylan did in the sixties. And then you realise that he pretty much sat on outtakes that could make an almost...

Never heard of this band before, which is weird since I was 19 when it came out and this sounds like something I would dig back then

Pursuit of Happiness is one of those songs that brings a huge smile on my face everytime I hear it. Thanks for reminding me that that existed! It's a damn near perfect pop song! And so is Time To Pretend and Kids. I don't care if they've been overplayed, they're still perfect. I haven't...

When I heard Oasis first single for the first time, I thought it sounded like a less funky The Charlatans. Their singles from the early ninties are pure fire. By the time this album came out, the tables had turned though. This sounds like an uninspired Oasis.

Yes, and they are similar to The Buzzcocks in that way (I mean, "Singles Going Steady" is Buzzcocks best album, and it's a singles comp). But I do think their debut is the exception here and works great as an album. I think there's almost a Ramones-like quality to it, in that every song just sparks!

This is the only White Stripes album I've actually listened to quite a bit. I still dig it, but I'm also in the "Jack White is overrated" camp. Score 4/5 Now onto Undertones! This is such a great album, right in the sweet spot between punk and pop. "Teenage Kicks" is the anthem here, but the...

The last great Metallica album in my book, although not my favorite of theirs (that would be “…And Justice For All”, mostly because that was were I discoverd them. The bad production is part of the appeal. It sounds raw and unrelening. Anyway, I digress.) After Justice Metallica could only do...

I think I mentioned my friend (when we discussed Ray Price), who is a total country aficionado and compiled some great country mix tapes and cd:s for me since the late 90’s that also got me hooked on the genre. Well, the very first mix tape I got from him started with “Let the sad times roll”...

The Official Needles and Grooves 1001 Album Generator Project (aka Preachin’ about the Preachers if today’s selection sucks)

I agree that Badmotorfinger is their greatest moment, and a top ten metal album of all time. This is their shot at the mainstream and their version of Metallicas black album in that sense. I remember a review of that said something like “they’re travelling on the wide highways of the mainstream...
