NHL Thread Because There Isn't An NHL Thread

Subway was closed during rush hour, so I biked all the way home after work in a snowstorm, made it back downtown in time to get to my seat for puck drop, and the fucking Trailer Park Boys are in the house for a Leafs comeback win? GLG

The Official Needles and Grooves 1001 Album Generator Project (aka Preachin’ about the Preachers if today’s selection sucks)

Fair enough, though I'm not really talking about the production, more the guitar tone itself. They had bite on the first couple albums, and then started sounding like thin, fuzzy mud.

    Your Fave is Problematic

Only about halfway through the article so far, but separate from the revelations about McCarthy, it's one of the most bizarre pieces I've ever read in a major English-language magazine. Like, the writer is clearly so blinded by his love for McCarthy's work—and maybe enamoured by the charms of...

The Official Needles and Grooves 1001 Album Generator Project (aka Preachin’ about the Preachers if today’s selection sucks)

Love most of the songs on Piece of Mind, just can't get over the horribly thin guitar sound.

I know I've mentioned this before, but my buddies and I were huge Maiden fans in high school. But when we first heard a Di'Anno record (Killers), we all thought, "what the fuck is this?" Twenty years later I'm firmly in the Di'Anno > Dickinson camp; first two records were never matched.

Hmm, just noticed "Sanctuary" isn't on the streaming version of this album (total banger) for some reason.

The Official Needles and Grooves 1001 Album Generator Project (aka Preachin’ about the Preachers if today’s selection sucks)

In a post on his Substack last year, accompanying a cover of "Plateau", Tweedy wrote, "...I can’t think of another record I listened to more growing up than Meat Puppets II" and "...I also don’t like making lists of favorite records for people because I get asked to do it all the time for 'rock...

    2024 Reading Challenge

Lincoln in the Bardo is one of the best and most original novels from this century that I've read. I just picked up a hardcover copy over the weekend and am looking forward to a re-read, possibly with the audiobook that has a million notable names playing parts. I haven't read any of his short...

For sure. Awful human being, but his role is just so bonkers and he inhabits it perfectly.

Absolutely. All those decades of selling wine to finance one of the most bizarre big-budget films I've ever seen. Gotta support the weirdo visionaries.

Somehow Jon Voight was the highlight for me—especially at the movie's funniest sequence toward the end. I was glad to see Coppola really commit to his vision—whatever it was—but what a mess. For a film so apparently concerned with a new vision of civilization, it really had absolutely nothing...
