The Official Needles and Grooves 1001 Album Generator Project (aka Preachin’ about the Preachers if today’s selection sucks)

Apparently, with the exception of a few, bands inspired by Big Star are just as big of a blind spot as Big Star for me. Beside REM who is a top 5 band for me, most of that list falls into the "I've heard of that guy/band" territory for me.

So basically any indie leaning band with the slightest country tinge?

The dumb fuck doesn't realize that there's a reason we import metal and lumber from Canada. And it's not because we don't want to make it in America.

Who would be an example of bands that were trying to sound like Big Star. I didn't get any sense of one album of any obvious "oh yeah, this sounds a lot like...."

Immerse Your Soul In Love - The Radiohead Thread

The songs from this sound interesting. But maybe just work on another Radiohead album?

That's quite impressive considering the amount of chucklefuckery over the past year or so.

I'm sure they exist somewhere. And I'm sure I'd be appalled at some of the inclusions.

I'm doing the math. I must have been obsessed with this album a few years after it's release. I probably just knew the Down and All Mixed Up videos at the time and then hit my 311 phase in high school. That at least gave me a few years back.

The Official Needles and Grooves 1001 Album Generator Project (aka Preachin’ about the Preachers if today’s selection sucks)

This is one of those albums where I'm aware of the band, aware of the album, definitely seen the album cover before but I can't say I actually know anything by them. Obviously I recognize the That 70's Show Theme. I also recognize "Thirteen" but not sure if it's from a cover or what.

I want this just for the cover art alone.

Not familiar with this one. It surprisingly doesn't sound as dated as I was expecting when I saw it was a 90's electronic album.

    That Midlake album is tempting.

I'm only a few songs in but so far I can say this is definitely not what I was expecting. I was expecting a typical Beach Boys, poppy sounding, fun in the sun album. So far it's just....weird.

I'm not super familiar with The Beach Boys catalog, but that definitely is not what I would expect the album cover to an album called Surfs Up to look like.

Interesting. Yeah, I saw on Apple Music they have been steadily making albums since 2006. I checked out after Junk of the Heart.
