As far as I understand the novel is both a prequel and a sequel. And Adam Driver was in Michael Mann's last movie so I don't think it's out of the cards for him to be involved.

I don't think Michael planned on making it into a film either. He wrote it as a novel a few years ago that I've heard is pretty good. In any case, it probably will be good if Warner Bros doesn't muck it up. They dragged around Mickey 17 to multiple release dates and are apparently fighting PTA...
