As usual, their continued existence will largely be contingent on the strength (or not) of the AOTM picks. All it takes is another Gorillaz or QOTSA to grab a few thousand new customers. I won't be surprised, though, if they lose a bunch of their newest 3-month subs (who were here for QOTSA) after this nonsense.
I don't doubt they have the money to keep it going for a while, but they feel so far removed from what they were. Will people still be willing to sign up when the AOTMs keep declining? Will people want to buy more from the store when the prices are jacked up? I just feel they're making dumb moves.
Oh, I completely agree with that. I've been subscribed in one form or another almost 5 years now, and they continually make changes that are almost intended to make people angry. The amount I've spent with them has decreased dramatically and been directly related to the indefensible price increases.
I get what you mean, yeah, they're definitely making some dumb moves. I also see it as setting themselves up for the future. Yes, this migration was terrible across the board, but all in all it's about making everything more efficient and provide more visibility. You don't make changes like that and incur costs if they're not doing well.
Ultimately, I feel like VMP will be that ex that somehow got hotter and is doing better off than when y'all were dating and is better off than you... Might've burned a million bridges to get there, and they burnt you, but they're doing better... lolol
Their whole business model is about feeding flippers and looking for an investor with even deeper pockets to buy them out. Don't be surprised if they become the official Pitchfork record store or owned by an online retailer who wants to get into the vinyl game. I'm surprised so many people here are all of a sudden figuring out they suck
@Memo really??? If it's anything like their reviews it'll just be mostly regurgitation *cough* i mean represses of things you can already buy for less $. Oh that's right VMP pretty much already does this.
@jaycee I mean, do they think they're the Ultimate voice in music? Yes they do. But in terms of newly released music, they're pretty forward thinking. Especially looking at past years and how those top albums age and pretty much stand the test of time. They have good taste lol
