Dire Straits best record is Love Over Gold. The rest are alright. Steely Dan could do no wrong...well except most of their first record. All of their records, except Aja and Gaucho, need to be reissued, pronto!
My favorite thing about Aja was catching the De La Soul sample in the wild, and then my second favorite thing was absolutely everything else about it (mf-ing WAYNE SHORTER is on this????)
Kid Charlemange is the best name for a band - Pitchfork did an overview of Steely Dan last week, reviewing Thrill, Royal Scam, Aja, Gaucho and Katy Lied. Great stuff

Steely Dan is also an example, though not the only, of a band that appreciated the craft of the studio and using it as an instrument and not just the craft of songwriting.
