Pretty sure most of the folks I voted for won't be getting in anytime soon. I do think Pat Benatar deserves to be in there. She had a great run of hits in the 80's, and has one of the best rock voices ever. She often gets a bit overlooked in the run down of great women in rock.

If I could have voted for more than 5 I probably woulda voted for Priest & T. Rex. There is another tier where pretty much all the remaining Artist would probably qualify for and since, let’s be honest you don’t have to be a top tier artist to get into the HOF most of these artists will probably get in sooner or later.

It’s it wrong that I feel that the very i idea of a hall of fame is so horribly anti rock n roll that I don’t want my favourite artists anywhere near it. Save such nonsense for the careerists like U2 & Coldplay...

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame thing bothers me about as much as the Grammys. People are gonna shit on them, including many of the inductees, but I'm well past that purity of the music/it's a sellout stuff. If bands don't want to show up for their own induction that's their choice, but it's kind of weak IMO.

Yeah I’ve never been a fan of the industry of creative arts slapping its own back. Such things are worthless and don’t add value to art in my opinion. Let’s face it they aren’t going to bring anything new to the public attention and are unlikely to ever even crown the best albums/artists.

I like some music for strictly art, but that doesn't mean I don't also like stuff that is commercial and maybe less high art. Things that just sound really good coming out of the car radio, but that might not take umpteen listens to really dig deep on. I would think for someone like, say, Pat Benatar, the recognition of a career in the industry would probably mean a helluva lot.

I was using art as a catch all term and including all music under it. I’d say similar about the oscars etc etc. I dunno, maybe it’s just me or maybe we’re different over here (Radiohead’s reaction to the hall of fame would maybe suggest this) but I just don’t buy into these things at all. They seem like industry self gratification to me.

Sure, but pretty much every industry does awards and/or year end gatherings. Some, like Radiohead just choose not to participate. That's fine. They don't really need record sale boosts or want any additional spotlight. Some artists can benefit from that though. And as too cool for school as Thom Yorke is, I'm sure even he got into music for the same reasons most do...he wanted to get laid more.

And even the idea that art and the Hall of Fame can't coexist seems overblown to me. Do I think any less of Talking Heads because they showed up, said "Thanks" and played 3 songs? Not at all. Do I confuse Talking Heads with Kiss or Bon Jovi on the artistic meter? Nope.
