Word to the wise. My wife now refers to my home office as "your record room". I can hear the sarcasm/spite dripping from her silver tongue. You have been warned. The cubes givith and the cubes taketh away. Praise be to the cubes.

I texted her the proposal complete with pictures and diagrams and graphs and environmental effect breakdown models and her first response was "For your records?".
I thought I was sunk, BUT I POWERED THROUGH MY FRIENDS..And today I stand before you, a man with six more cubes to put my stuff in.

I'd just like to take a moment to thank everyone responsible for this honor, @jamieanderson1968 and @Lee Newman for encouraging me to turn my entire house into cubes, @folsom_lives for informing me that the Kallax doors close with records in them. And Ikea for making cheap as shit furniture in cube form.

I'd also like to thank my father for letting me use his record player as a child and not being like me who wouldn't let a child or anyone really; near his record player. Thanks also to my mailman who has managed to get me some of my records without destroying them first.

Also my first grade teacher who always said to me "Mather, one day you will have a lot of cubes."

TIL, kallax even has doors to put on, this has been a very informative day

Be warned, the doors are a pain in the ass to hand screw into the Kallax walls. I would recommend predrilling a 1/8" hole to help although I have not tested this method. Also because of the dumb 1/16" overhang from the sides, the weight of the records causes the shelf to deform a bit meaning the doors don't sit perfectly square in the holes. That is unless you have it sitting on legs.

I'm confused, where is the overhang and how does having it up on legs help with this problem?

Someone needs to start a vinyl- related Ikea thread. I picked up 3 cardboard boxes that hold 7 inches with a lid on. Of course I had to buy a small billy to hold them.

@Mather see the first picture. My 2x4 has doors and drawers and the overhang from the side pieces causes the middle to sag ever so slightly.

Right so the weight of the records is bowing down the bottom of the upper cubes. Do the doors and drawers still close okay?

Oh yeah. Everything is tight. I just adjusted the screws on the doors before everything was loaded. So loading the shelf caused the doors to skew a little. Nothing horrible. That's the saving grace of the doors is the ability to adjust the screws in the hinges to moves things up-down or left-right after the fact.

Perfect. I really like the look of your setup, with the two drawers and doors. I think I'm just going to go for gloss white with two doors so I leave myself as much space for records as possible because this is the final upstairs solution so I gotta make it count...

I mean my wife made me paint the beams in the record room, but I now have two walls to fill in the guest room and I can put at least twice as many records as I currently have in the record room. I’m good.
