My completely sports-ignorant brain {except for Jon Bois videos for the past couple of weeks} always assumed soccer/international football.
But it's not hockey, because they have periods. Soccer has half's... I guess lacrosse. But he's seriously singing about lacrosse?
In fairness that feels like a very Postal Service thing to do. Not that I'm familiar with Gibbard's work outside Postal Service.
