Needles & Grooves

I've been summoned.

I honestly do not know how much we pay for food truck meals as I haven't hit one up in years.

I CAN tell you how much I paid to eat at the Toronto restaurant where Bill Gates was sitting behind us. I justify it as "It was my birthday dinner!".

Restaurant meals are probably a much better deal here than buying your own groceries....
Maybe because we have 3 major grocers all tripping over themselves to be the most costly.

In case you're ever wondering where Bill Gates eats if he's in Toronto:

The entree prices aren’t that whacky. The fact that it appears to be ala carte and the veggies cost that much though…. Whoa.

Tasting menu is where it's at tbh.
Two people tasting menu + bunch of drinks was about $480 w/ tip. For a Michelin starred restaurant you could do a helluva lot worse.

Restaurants aren't bad here, if there's one complaint it's there's less than optimal amounts of dirt cheap options and for the 4th largest city in North America with every ethnicity imaginable we do really suck on street food options.

Confirmed, LA pricing is accurate

I can't seem to find online pricing for some local food trucks but unless it's lobster, nothing is $30 a platter
EDIT: this lobster franchise has prices listed Harrisburg, PA | Cousins Maine Lobster

@bdrummond Montréal is where it's at for cheap eats. I've been dead ass broke in MTL a few times and still had a great time.

@avecigrec those are some expensive lobster roll kits. Lobster meat is $44 a pound around here to buy cooked and out of the shell. Meaning it's all lobster meat and you are not paying for the shell / parts you don't eat.

Is that like packaged and on a shelf at a supermarket price @RenegadeMonster? Because that’s not going to taste the same as freshly cooked lobster meat or even lobster meat that just hasn’t been put in plastic to leech flavor from the container.

Unlike a crabcake which can effectively mask “canned” meat flavor, a lobster roll really needs fresh meat to be tasty.

There is no circumstance where I'm buying lobster that has been cooked more than ten minutes ago.

I think lobster rolls might be off the table for you then.

Oh probably. I'm super picky on seafood though.

@Lee Newman It's freshly cooked / cooked to order at Market Basket and still warm. Also you can get it seafood places around the docks / ports around here at a similar price or sometimes cheaper.

I’m picky on seafood. It’s a whole other thing for shellfish.

Need to add Salem to the to visit for food list, it would seem.

that said, I would only buy cooked lobster meat when using it in pasta, mac n' cheese or some other dish. If i'm eating lobster at home I'm cooking it fresh.

I can't imagine any of the food trucks would get the price points they offer on that show without the cameras around to draw in traffic.

I'm in a different, much smaller part of the California coast, but depending on the type of food, I pay about $15 for most food truck or fast casual type food, although seafood ones are usually more like $20.
