Needles & Grooves

@Delta Don I hear ya. It’s tough because I know I’m not going to get as much selling in bulk, but it’s also going to take a lot of time and money to sell individually. Factor in all the taxes I’d have to keep track of for next year, it may just be worth taking a bit of a hit for cash. A lot to consider!

I did this a couple years ago. High-mid priced stuff I put on discogs at or below median pricing. If it didn’t sell in a month I just took it to my local with the low priced stuff. I don’t know that it’s worth it now with the price of good packaging/shipping/time/taxes.

Now, I’ve just been taking everything to my local, but anything high priced that I have left, I want to keep. Only thing I really regret selling is “Muna - Saves the World”. I got into them with their next record. Saving grace, is that the pressing was pretty shoddy….but I still wish I kept it!

I wouldn't worry about the taxes

@bdm105 eh, I haven’t in the past but it would be a significant amount that I would want to at least keep track of just in case.

@Kris great advice - think that’s what I’m going to do re: higher end stuff.

I guess but it's all 1099. Between shipping supplies, insurance, commute blah blah. It gets deducted down to nothing. But if you're trying to sell so many that you have to worry then maybe go set up at a record fair?

One thing that may be worth it for the midsized titles is to incentive folks to order 3 or more at a time. Usually combining a discount for multiples with friendly shipping. That's my go to on those mid level items

@waruv do you order mailers to accommodate ? I may have one or two that could fit a couple records.

I just give records away 😂

I'm not good with money

I haven’t carved out anything close to that percentage of my collection in one go but anything under $20 or so just doesn’t seem worth it to me to try to sell online. After fees on discogs or eBay, shipping materials and time, it’s just not worth it to me

Anything $40+ I try to sell on Reddit or other forums like Hoffman to avoid the discogs or eBay fee. Setting up at a record fair isn’t a bad idea if that’s an option. I might do that one day if I have time…been pulling some big stacks of stuff to sell

I am currently attempting this because I can’t move with 2000+ records. I am selling really expensive titles on discogs, I will probably start a thread here for titles between $20-$50 and the rest I am going to try to sell at a garage sale.

@Delta Don . I will reuse mailers in good shape. Most can safely accommodate 2-3.

@MikeH whats the subreddit in which things are sold ?

@MikeH @Delta Don VinyCollectors. I’ve sold on there a bunch, but haven’t had time to do a spreadsheet of stuff. Probably will at some point soon, but it’s a lot of effort and sales have been slim the last few times I’ve put stuff up (as they’ve been everywhere as of late, it seems).

@nolalady Wife and I are moving/buying a home sometime in the next year, so time for a massive downsize. Plus I really just need to curtail to what I actually listen to. I have too much that I’ve listened to just once or twice - not worth having it at that point.

@MikeH definitely will set up at a show sometime soon. Though a lot of what I have doesn’t really sell well at record fairs in this area (AP, Tone Poets, BN Classics, audiophile stuff) - people always tend to want older stuff.

@Colonel4Bin do you have access to the Hoffman classifieds? That stuff would probably sell quickly really quickly there

@MikeH I don’t think so - I have a lurker account but am very turned off by that place lol I haven’t been other there for a while but use it to get pressing info and such.
