I drove last Summer, but between hotel and parking prices, it seems like it would be cheaper to fly this year (Like i did in 2021). Hate how removed O'Hare is from the city, though, I know it'lll cost me a $50 uber to get from there to the hostel (yes, a hostel, all the hotels are crazy this summer).

Park at the airport and take the train into town. That's how I always do it now. Cheaper and easier than parking in the city.

Can you fly into Midway? We did that a few years back, and it was easy to get into the city on public transit from there. We stayed in Ukrainian Village and liked it; easy to walk or otherwise get to wherever we wanted to go.

@Hemotep Hadn't thought about parking at the airport, now there's an idea. Is Midway preferable to O'Hare you think?

@BjorgenFjorgen Yeah, flying into Midway is an option, but there are fewer flights out of Louisville to that one, so I think I'd probably have to connect somewhere, and thus a longer commute.

This is all keeping in mind that a flight from Lou to Chi is about $250. Then the train ride into town. When you factor in gas and parking, flying may actually end up being the cheaper (and more convenient) option.

I've usually done it at O'Hare, but depending on the cost I'm sure Midway would work too. I was usually driving from either Iowa or Tennessee, but a friend told me about this trick to parking there and it's made trips to Chicago so much easier imo. Flying is easy too.

Do you have an idea where you want to stay yet? I highly recommend taking the train from the airport (blue line from O'Hare, orange line from Midway). Midway is mostly a Southwest hub FYI. One thing you can do is take the train 90% of the way to your accommodations and Uber from there.

I just reserved a stay at a hostel in West Loop, like a 20 minute walk from the park. That was only about $250 for 4 nights, so flying in and taking the train seems like the most convenient way to go.
