...Instead of bootleg. He's claiming I misled him by saying that, instead of claiming it was a boot. However, if you look into it, it's not hard to find that this has never been officially pressed. He's saying he'll send it back for a full refund or keep it and take a 50% refund.

I know it sounds terrible, and knew that when I sold it, but bootlegs are so hit and miss quality wise and he even says he knows that. Should I feel obligated to accept a return and process a refund, or tell him no and risk negative feedback/filing a claim with ebay?

If your account is in good standing, stick to your policy. You stated no refunds and offered information in the listing. If he's willing to keep it at a discount, he wants it at his price. Ebay, may refund him, but you don't have to. I've had 2 sales end up in a refund request, both specifically say "No Refunds", I didn't have to refund either of them, ebay took care of it.

Personally, I do think it was rather misleading not to declare it as a bootleg. ‘European import’ lends an air of authenticity.

Gotta agree w @kvetcha. If you’re asking the question you already have an idea of the answer...There’s what CAN you do vs what SHOULD you do. Refund and live to sell another day. How would you feel as that buyer?

Even if you check the Returns Not Accepted, eBay will force you to accept the return and eat the costs. That whole platform is fucking garbage.

@AnthonyI @kvetcha @TheMythOfSisyphus @CAPacelli Thank you all for your responses! Anthony, in your case, did you receive negative feedback for those transactions? Or does it not allow feedback when a case is opened? Kvetcha and Myth, I guess I am kind of struggling with the moral side of can vs should...

...It would suck to receive a shitty pressing of a record, which I did, because I received that record at one point in time, but I just sold it and moved on with my day. I guess I could go with a refund and just sell it again, but be more straight forward about the fact that it's a boot. CAP, have you had that happen to you before?

My issue was with a DSLR camera I sold. Buyer claimed it was malfunctioning and eBay forced me to accept the return. Buyer left negative feedback and harassing messages. I contested the return and had full diagnostics run on the device by the OEM and a nationally recognized camera shop at my own expense.

Both came back with no issues detected. eBay still sided with the buyer and retained the negative feedback on my previously perfect score that was 10+ years running. All that to say, eBay is a bad platform and I no longer use it.
