You make a good point though, and it made me have a think about it. I would label Sigur Ros post-rock but I think they've written more just straightforward rock songs than they have post-rock songs now.
Labels be damned. The song structures and melodies are strikingly similar to me.
I CAN SAY ASSUREDLY WITH ABSOLUTELY ZERO HYPERBOLE THAT THEY ARE EXACTLY THE SAME IN EVERY WAY EXCEPT FOR THE LANGUAGE THING
Apparently the only Sigur Ros I've heard is ambient or ambient adjacent and has no characteristics I would ascribe to Doves. I know I've heard at least 3 Sigur Ros albums and every single Doves album.
I've only listened to the one with the baby on the cover and the one with the naked people and although I EXPECTED ambient, they both had a heck of a lot of Dovesy sounding Dovesness.
Lost Souls or Last Broadcast, or both. I like all of them but those are probably the best ones. And their albums aren't necessarily front loaded. Some of the best tracks tend to be on later sides too.
Yeah those two. I prefer Lost Souls as a single piece but Last Broadcast is a really strong album too and probably has most of the “hits” with “There Goes The Fear”, “Satellites” and, of course “Pounding”.
