I was asked if it was good and after a pause I said, "Yah. It's good." and nothing further.

Your assessment of this one track is pretty much my assessment of the majority of her tracks.

I don't hear the emphasis problems that you do, but I just don't think the song works as well slower and softer. Maybe she was aiming for dreamy, but she missed and the bleakness is a little too on-the-nose.
