I don't know if it's just nostalgia for better times or what, but to me 2015 and 2016 were like a very brief golden age of music in the 2010s. The amount of great music that was released in those two years is staggering.
I think it's both, that was about the time I really started following music, but I was looking back a few months ago and still thinking, holy shit what a wild couple of years.
@gaporter you should check out Perfect Sound Whatever by James Acaster. He makes the argument for 2016 being the best year of music of all time. It's also a BBC sounds podcast. Would recommend!
@GritNGlitter I like to think of it as a point where experimental indie and pop started to trend mainstream. Perhaps it's more one album in a trend than THE album, but BJ Burton has gone on to work with Charli XCX, Taylor Swift and Kacy Musgraves after this.
Yeah, I am surprised how many people share this assertion. As someone who enjoys Bon Iver’s work I am hard pressed to think of this album as important to me or to the musical landscape as a whole. That being said, there are lots of people that find this album important so there is likely some truth to it.
