Isn’t the rule something like 1/3 dry of whatever amount you intend to finish with? (Says the guy who also has never made a reasonable amount of rice in his life)

The real reason I had kids was so I could have someone else to help me finish eating this damn rice.

I looked at a packet of rice and it must have said a single portion is 75g so I weigh out 75g of dry rice and cook it and that works ok, could cut it down to 65g or 60g even and probably wouldn't notice too much.

When your wife is part asian, you just learn to use the rice cooker and you're golden. Right amount every time.

I always do 1 cup of rice and 20 cups of stock. Of course, I'm making jook more than rice....

We blew our savings on a tiny Zojiruishi that can cook as little as half a measuring cup (ie 1 serving) of rice perfectly. It's a miracle.

@kvetcha if you get the use out of it I bet but man I already have so many kitchen gadgets and I don’t know that I can justify that kinda spend on a rice cooker for the once or twice a fortnight that I have a curry. I think the answer is just to ditch the homemade curries and order takeout with a side of pilau 😂

Honestly if you're not going to get the use out of it, I think you might just be better off going for that instant or 5-minute boil-in-a-bag rice. It's already portioned and you don't have to worry about another pot to clean or extra rice to store or whatever.

@yukbon nah I’d not buy one, it’d be wasted on me but are you also trying to talk me out of a takeaway curry 😂😂😂
