I'm a suburbanite that hates going to the city so never went to any. But pretty sure Dusty Groove has a decent rep and has a decent stock from what I e seen online when checking
Just noticed more than record stores. Obv pizza is the big attraction. Deep dish is the touristy and unique style. Many opinion on best but personally for me I go with Lou Malnati's. Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinder has a pretty unique pizza too. Chicago Style hot dog is a must too
@frodo-pkt Dusty Groove is definitely a must for me today! I totally forgot about Lou Malnati’s, thanks for the tip!
Yesterday I drove up to Elmwood Park to get an italian beef at Johnnies, safe to say my life has changed .
Get a deep dish pizza. As someone from the south I thought it was al shenanigans. But whooo boy that thing isn’t a pizza but a casserole. Apologies if you’ve had one before , but pizza ….
Dusty Groove isn't far from two of my favorite restaurants! Pub Royale for upscale Indian and Mott St. for Asian fusion. Piece Pizza is in that area too for New Haven style pies, and it has huge music connections (owned by Rick Nielsen and draws appearances by the likes of Dave Grohl and co.).
Art Institute and Millennium Park is always fun time. If the weather is nice pick a neighborhood; Lincoln Park, Old Town, Bucktown, Ukrainian Village, Wicker Park, etc… and just hoof it around, there are lots of fun places to discover.
Don't know if it's too touristy for you but, we had a great time on the Goose Island brewery tour, Purple Pig had some excellent food and Cindy's rooftop bar was great too.
Those were all in 2017, so....
Dusty Groove was great, albeit a little smaller than I imagined based on their online catalog and presense. They price their used catalog very reasonably. Got a couple soul records for under $30.
Going to the aquarium now, hopefully it is worth the admission!
Yes, the Shedd is fantastic!, try and see the Field Natural History Museum which is next door as well. If your a Ferris Bueller fan I think the Sears Tower observation deck is open again if the smoke from the wildfires is not too hazy. And you should probably treat your significant other to a walk and gift on the Magnificent mile.
There's a Lou Malnatti's near the aquarium, but either Roots or Flo and Stantos' are also great pizza options nearby. Dim sum/Chinese in Chinatown is also within reach. (MingHin's my personal favorite, but Lao Sze Chuan next door is also a solid bet!)
